is there a specific meaning to "mk2" on names of models from products?
i see it on many different models, like cd players, soundcards and more... any ideas?

Nothing specific. Just a newer model of an original one.
MK2 is short for Mark 2. For example, they came out with Technics SL-1200, then the next model to hit the streets was SL-1200Mk2 and then after that the SL-1200 MK3,MK4, and now were at MK5. It's just a model number to let people know when the piece of gear came out so you can find out what features it has.
It's also short for Mortal Kombat 2!!!
