    Tagging beats B4 sellling?

Is this a good idea. I'm about to submit a CD of beats to some upcoming artist and I dont want to get jacked by just sending an instrumental. There due before wednesday so I think copyrighting them is just impossible (I dont know anyway).

I found a catchy little sample from a movie to tag my beats. How often should I play the sample, Every 8 bars?

It would be better if you tagged it with your own voice saying things like . . .

    - This is ________ if you interested in purchasin please contact me . . . etc.

At least if you are going to tag them that would be a better way than having a random movie sample playing. At least they will hear you and hear the details such as contact to purchase and whatever else you wish to say.

But yea tag'em if they want the beat they'll have no choice but to buy it and not even think of runnin off with your beats.

If they ask why are they like that tell them it's to protect yourself from being jacked ad your beats being used without permission.

you could send them a lower quality mp3 like 96kbps. Its still listenable but not goo enough to think about using.
Also especially if you are new to the game, I wouldn't worry about ppl trying to nick your stuff and sample it.
And also one more point, everything you do in terms of production is automatically copyrighted.

do not voice tag your beats. i'm serious. just make sure they are copyrighted. i have spoke with a lot of a&r's and other people in the music industry, and those voice tags annoy the **** out of them and they will automatically stop listening. Just copyright your stuff man, then you dont have to worry about getting jacked. i mean, they can try and jack you, but then you got protection. the day the copyright office receives your package you are golden. so even if you sent it out today you would be sound as a pound.
you mentioned they are upcoming, but i still wouldnt do it man. voice tags really are unprofessional.

Well... but to be sure that things are officially noted as copyright, spend the $30 and send your CD to the Library of Congress

It's cheap enough ... and official.
    I hope this helps.

    Word.

I cosign this every chance I get. When you make an original work of art of any kind, it is copywrighted all ready. The government won't let you sue in their FEDERAL courts with you paying the fee and filing your sh*t. It is something to think about, still.

Get a manager, lawyer, or some kinda representation than just yourself.

Damn near ALL major producers have a manager that pushes the beats and finds artists to work wit. Its rare for a producer to sell and deal directly with an artists.

I personally dont really worry bout all that copyright stuff cuz now I got a manager who has connects in the industry so people take it more serious than me giving them a cd by myself.
"as hip-hop started moving on a lot of hip-hop producers started playing [instruments]. But not really playing, “hitting sounds” is what I call it. Like my thing is, I could make beats like that but it sounds more authentic when I sample, as opposed to me acting like I could play when I really can’t, you know what I’m saying?" - Rsonist

you can have as much as you want under 1 copywrite. even multiple cds. it would have to be named ( Example: Bruce's Mix, Bruces Mix2, etc. ) all for 30.00

Put a tag at the begining and middle if you break down the drums. Also have a lawyer submit the material for you. If you cant find one make it up.
