synth with no midi out?

How do you record knob tweaks like modulation or filtering with a synth that doesn't have MIDI Out?

Are you stuck with having to just record the MIDI note data and audio, then apply virtual envelopes in your mixing DAW?

Also on topic is MIDI only keyboard with MIDI In... why not just MIDI Out?

You record them in the DAW on the way to the synth.

that would probably need to be automated with either real equipment [if you are using a vst] or using vsts on bounced audio :/

And just to elaborate on this a bit, this'd mean using an external controller for the synth, which sends the MIDI to the DAW, which then forwards/passes it through to the synth.
