Soundcloud Vs Youtube (Sound Quality)

I do realise it's a noob question but let's assume and learn something new haha

How come the difference in sound quality (and loudness) is so huge for the exact same file beetween SoundCloud and Youtube ?

Soundcloud encodes everything into 128kbps mp3. Youtube uses...some other audio codec. The latter seems to be a bit tricky to find out; there are some sites that provide the info, but none of the ones I came across have really up-to-date information.

I've always wondered this. As soon as I upload the same audio onto Youtube the sound appears to be much louder.

The perceived loudness might be just about the platform's default volume level - while different encoders might have some effect on this, it's really unlikely that one would sound "much louder" than another.

Most of the difference is very likely to be loudness- which is probably just to do with the default settings on both platforms. You can make them closer by just adjusting the volume slider on both websites

Telling the difference between 128kbps and higher mp3 qualities is very difficult- I can't do it.
