Question Some doubts of a newbie...

Hi guys. So, I always listened to hip hop and liked it, and for some time now I got more interested for beatmaking. I got FL Studio and read so many tutorials. But what disappoints me is see in the videos that people with a basic controller pad can make a good beat soooooo much easier that people who just have the PC for it. So, what do you think is more worthwhile to people who are starting, stay learning just with the PC or buy at least one pad controller (I was thinking about MPD18)?
And just one more question... For hip hop production, it's better Ableton Live or FL Studio?

Sorry for any grammatical mistake, my english is not very well, i'm brazilian.

Do you have a midi controller? If not thats what id recommend over a pad controller, most people i know who bought pad controllers usually dont end up using them for long lol.

^^^Ditto this. I feel as though a MIDI controller is just more versatile overall too. And there are some pretty good MIDI controllers out there on the market with pads too.

And P.S., your english is fine.

MPDs are midi controllers. I think because he is not a native english speaker we should be more clear.

    A) Live is not better than FL and FL is not better than Live. Pick one that you like better.
    B) what kind of hip hop do you listen to? What musicians? What kind of hip hop do you plan to make? Without knowing that we cannot really tell you what is best. Though I think having a midi controller keyboard is better than having a midi controller drum pad because you can make the keyboard do things that is harder to do on the pads.

Buy a keyboard lol the M-Audio Axiom 25 has eight pads, knobs, a fader and a two octave keyboard. Also, Live has more power and flexibility but is harder to use, while FL Studio is more user friendly and simplistic. Overall, Live is better in my opinion, and I would highly recommend Suite if your really serious about making music.

I'm not sure if I'd highly recommend the Suite - good stuff there (and I'm a Suite owner), but one has to look long and hard at what it offers compared to the vanilla version before dropping the monies. It doesn't offer any extra functionality, so it's all about the plugins & sample libraries that come with it (which are good but hardly essential for everybody).

I listen to the most of hip hop kinds, but what attracts me more on beats are those that they do with samples old school musics, like we can hear, for example, on many of Wiz Khalifa tracks and on most of Kanye West productions. I got more interested in pad controllers than the octaves ones because of it. I love the sampling stuff, you know? I think it's nicer because the most of brazilian rap is made this way, with samples of old school soul and R&B songs.

I would like more to buy a keyboard with the pads, but they are a little expensive for me in this moment...

It would be awesome if anybody with some beatmaking experience and knowledge (most of you all haha) propose to add me on msn or skype, like a novice. If I not disturb you, of course.

Your DAW of choice is all preference. Neither is better than the other. And controllers are definitely nice but not necessary. The song in my sig for example I made when I was in between controllers.

But which are the differences on interfaces and ways of using each one? I searched it in FP and I didn't find.
