Should you "force" the music...?

I know that most producers experience "block". Is it non-beneficial to force the music when you are experiencing a "block" or don't feel like making music at the moment? How would you handle that if you were in a situation where you have to meet deadlines?

Just finish what you start, whether you like the tract or not. Practice finishing projects before moving on to new ones and the block with go away...

Shit man.........with today's technology the only blocks and limits are the ones you can put on yourself. Like saying you don't do this or never will try that. Like seriously......there are too many loops to manipulate and get shit out the way for a person that has limited themselves to only starting ideas from scratch..........too many midi files and people around the corner who are good at playing the keys to limit yourself as a sample based producer only.

We can't have the same limited mind of the people with only guitar skills or bass skills or just good on the mpc skills. It's impossible....unless you limit yourself like them...only difference is they couldn't help it......so the creative ones out of that bunch found new ways of doing things with what they had....which are now part of your everyday routine.....like how delays and loops work......image what the person who was limited had to go through to do what you can do by just dragging a mouse and tapping a tempo.....or hell just visually lining up your loop on the grid by it's snare hits..

if it's not happening go to your rainy day projects

read up on
  1. music theory
  2. sampling tips
  3. synthesis tips
  4. recording tips
  5. mixing tips
  6. mastering tips
  7. one or more of your vsts and their parameters
when struggling for ideas a few years ago I would load in a new quirky vst and create something that put it through its paces; vst's like amoeba; barking wombat were cool ideas and literally made me think of new ideas on the spot

add in a bass line and a drum part and you have anew track finished in next to no time simply because you have been inspired by the sound of something new

Yes, just force the music out.
