Reading Music theory second edition for dummies

no, but you need to practice the content with a daw that lets you keep track of your progress through saved files

If this book is too theory-based for you I would recommend 'Music Theory for Computer Musicians'. I've only gotten through the first few chapters, myself, but it explains concepts in a more practical sense. It dips into the theory but also makes things click by relating it to your DAW, providing audio examples, practice exercises, etc.

I wouldn't recommend putting the book on the back burner but, at the same time, make sure you're spending time with your DAW. You're not gonna learn everything in a day. I would say read a chapter, close the book, open your DAW and apply some of the concepts you've learned to a song. Go back to your book to re-visit concepts that you gotta sharpen up on. When you got that down, move onto the next chapter. This helped me connect some dots (although I have a long way to go), so feel free to give it a try.
