So I'm 16 and just starting out out production. Now my problem is I have almost no prior experience in Music. I could take a class for Music theory, which would be a large workload if I understand it right. Or I could take a basic keyboard class which would help me learn notes. Im really stuck though cause looking at my classes next year my workload should already be huge (4 AP). But if it would really help me become better, I think I would be willing to take theory. I know it is important but is easier to learn on my own? Any suggestions?

honestly if you take keyboard classes you have to learn music theory to read the sheet music so i would go for the keyboard classes

Yeah keyboard classes would be my choice as well, keep in mind though you can learn a lot of this stuff yourself using the internet!

I think it's up to your characteristic. If you are familiar with self-study, just do it. You may learn music theory here: Real Music Maker | Make Your Beat
If yo want to have more fun, take a class. :-)

Take the keyboarding one and buy some secondhand college music theory textbooks from goodwill, read em, do all the worksheets etc in your spare time.
