Jay,

What does Rap mean to you?

I said

Teacher,

Rap is a way of life that their trying to remove from my age bracket. Kid's like me will always keep the music relevant because not everything is Starbucks and Daisy Fields in our world. We Matter! I'm 15 and every since I heard Lupe Fiasco I was hooked.

What does Rap mean to you or who was the artist that got you hooked?

For me 'good' rap has always been an expressive method of social commentary; a way to tell the story (often through the medium of story) of what's going on in our society; and why what's going on is wrong (or right). Why we should be angry about it. Why we should be disappointed. Who we should be angry and disappointed with (sometimes it's us) and what we can do about it; what we should do about it but don't.
Rap is the slap in the face you need from a good friend when you're being a dick.
Rap is the back up you need and receive when you're on your own and toe to toe against a dude who's bigger than you.
Rap is me being a good man but having to do bad things.
Rap is that hardcore m*****f*****r that you wish you were more like.

You've opened a can of worms here for me...
