Hey guys, since I got into in making music I really start to fallin in love with everything that's connect with it and I can't help but think about it every day. And right now what my mouth won't say but my mind do is that Im very serious about music. Even I am total new to this I really love it. I got 1,5 year left to finish my current studies and Im thinkin about going to music production school after that, so I have a couple of question

    1. Are all those music production schools private schools?
    2. What need to be done to be accepted by schools like that?

I did some research and found those schools: Pointblank school in London, SAE Institute which is in Europe and in US as well, and the last one London School of Sounds. Which one of those would be the best? Do you know other good music making schools in Europe and US as well? Do you have some experiences with music production schools and some knowledge about that? Can you suggest and advce something? I live in Poland but of course I consider moving so that won't be a problem.

Well, I myself have never attended school for music production, but I do know a few guys who have been to Full Sail and SAE Atlanta, and they're all working at Guitar Center, not really finding work in the industry. I don't know if this is a personal setback, or if it's a thing that the schools don't really prepare you any more than you can yourself? Maybe if you find a school it will work out much better for your situation, but honestly, I don't know if you even need school per se.

You might save yourself thousands of dollars by investing that money into a solid setup and going all in, the internet has an answer for just about any music production related question your mind can come up with, so think on that before you enroll. But if you do decide to enroll, God bless and the best of luck to you.
    , and like this.

IF you have the money why don't you go to a legit four year university? Take a look at NYU (if you have the grades/test scores), their music technology course is top notch. They have a close relationship with all the big studios and producers in NYC and you will have no problem finding a job.

Who said you need school ? If you have the passion and the drive to succeed at something then go for it without school. I'm currently setting up my own music production business and I'm still at school I have the model, the business plan, the contacts to make it and I haven't got any qualifications on music. All you need is the heart and the patience at the end of the day school gets you qualifications but you do not need them to succeed in life. I have been track making since 9-10 in FL Studio's starting off with club bangers and I know my business would work because we go further than what any production/music agency ever has. All I'm trying to say is don't waste your time within school your just wasting valuable time. Get practising, get hands on school can prepare you for some things but 9 times out of 10 it comes down to you learning it yourself not getting tought of some school.

For me it depends on what you are trying to acheive. If you want to just make music Audio school might not be required. The thing with the Music and most creative industries is qualifications are meaningless. Most people only care about the end result and whether or not is sounds good. They don't give a damn how many years you spent studying the art and your credentials. It's not like other professions where employers are unable to predict how good you will be at doing a job, so they judge your potential based on your qualifications and previous experience. With music you are effectively selling a product, it's black and white, you either make good shit or you don't.

Without disclosing your business plan, what are you going to do different? What are you even offering as a service?

I agree with what DJR said. You don't need to go to a school to make music or even make good music. I learnt everything I know by myself before any of these schools were set-up. However, if you want to learn as much as you can in a quick and concise way then a school is your best bet.

Even though I've been producing for 6 years I am looking into taking advance classes in mixing/mastering and music theory. Learning by yourself can only get you so far. If you are good at sampling and want to be a sample based producer forever then a school is not necessary. If you want to go beyond that and learn advance techniques then again, a school is your best bet.

As you are a beginner you might benefit from watching tutorials on Youtube from Dubspot, Pointblank and Todaysbeats. Getting the basics down and then save up for intermediate or advance classes later.

If you trust your ear you won't go wrong.

This is good advice, full sail is a joke, well maybe just the online part but i would go to a university and i 2 have heard great things about nyu but i live in ny 2 either way if your not working in your field then what else do you have to do then go to school! go to school!!
    Know the truth about school!
school is a aid to help you success.. mostly in your actual music
Unlike regular jobs where you get your accounting degree then apply at company's to be an accountant, your music degree wont do much more then teach you whatever you learned in the classes you took to get that degree, it may look professional and help in appearancesto get a job sure but you dont need it
you can be drakes new producer without a high school degree, truth is you dont need school to get in but why wouldnt you want to help yourself and give yourself the best chance possible!! with that said if you really have a passion you really gotta go over the top and research how to get your music in the right hands etc. i wont talk like i know, i dont but i do know for sure pick a school that seems best for you cause non of them will get you a job, maybe a little setup mixing tracks for completely nobody's like i think full sail does but that will be the extent of your career if you rely on school to get to the top, good luck hope i helped!

I'm in school for audio production right now... getting my associates. It all just depends... to be honest, you can learn everything school teaches you on the internet... but I'm more of a hands on learner so school was best for me. Plus, I knew nothing about the actual recording process and being an engineer... it just depends on what you want to do.

I would love to go to a music school... A DJ school! When you sit in a classroom with mixers and CD-players all day and just produce songs in FL or Ableton or Cubase or whatever... Haha that would be awesome.

i'm thinking about that myself. you can definitely pick up a lot of stuff on the web, but it's probably a good idea to do it in a way that's a bit more organized. dubspot Dubspot | Electronic Music Production & DJ School NYC & Online seems to be awesome. and i'm really intrigued about this thing they're doing in ibiza IBIZA SPARK , which seems kinda like a summer camp where you're going for 3 weeks and they do these intense workshops. i'll have to save up for that though. :-)
