Sounds like you did alot of research.
Pretty good timeframe to get comfy in a daw is a year minimum so you've hit your mark.

Many methods. Compression comes to mind but I also recommend researching what every last effect does in a daw also.
This knowledge will translate to other daws too for when you deal with more & more plugins later down the line.
