    How to get new "sounds"?

Hi, guys I have Ableton Live 8 and the sounds that come with it are pretty crap. So how do I get new "sounds"?

I know I can use samples, and I'm thinking about buying some samples. I'm worried though, because some other people could've used the samples and we may have similar songs.

Is there another way I can get new "sounds"? If I can't its okay because I've found some samples I like.

When someone says they make their own drums, what software do they use?

Do they use a software like Battery 8?

What are some good synthesizers? I'm thinking about getting Massive, or Komplete 8. I don't know if they have good samples for EDM music.

Why not make your own sounds? And you can make your drums many ways.. I like to do mine right in the audio lane, some people like to trigger them from a sampler or tap it out on some pads (which IMHO, takes a lot longer than just working with the audio).. Then EQ, filter, bus, ect, accordingly.

Learn synthesis. Get a microphone and/or a portable recorder and capture everyday sounds. Bang on different kind of things and materials and record that. Combine existing sounds or use effects, looping and other processing to mangle them into new ones. Learn an instrument (or hell, you don't even have to learn one to get usable sounds out of it). Learn synthesis. Combine all of the above. In other words, use your imagination - there's sound to be used all around you.
    , and like this.

Ableton allows you to create your own synthesized sounds very easily just by adjusting their sounds that come with it. There's nothing wrong with getting drum kits or sound kits though. The top producers in the world do it.

Check out this site, it's really great for tutorials in all different types of DAWs. In particular, look at the Ableton articles because it shows how to stack effects on top of each other to create all sorts of possibilities for unique sounds.

    Thanks.

I already know how to play the piano. I'm going to get a portable recorder this weekend, there's some sounds that I would like to use anyway.

I was thinking about doing that, but I would like to try something different now. I've been using Ableton for a few months now, and I've finally found out about samples.

What sites do you buy your samples from?

The top producers must change the samples though, right? To make them unique.

I was looking at some VSTs, and I was thinking about getting Komplete 8 on finance. I don't have the money to buy it so I might pay for it monthly, as I'm 15.

Do you think it is worth it?
Or should I buy £60/$90 worth of samples?

Other than that do you know of any free VSTs?

    Thanks for your help btw!

It's pretty hard to make a beat sound the same even with the same sounds! And yes you can always add effects etc. to taste to keep your sound original.

For your sound packs, here at Beatstruggles I've been able to hook up some unreal deals through the Beatstruggles Sound Pack Flyer.

For reviews on sound packs, you can read through my reviews on Beatstruggles:

And as for VST's, some are definitely higher quality. I personally really enjoy Nexus 2, but it doesn't give you tons of flexibility to "create your own sounds from scratch".

Again, here's some reviews on VST's I use, and still use!

If you are wanting to create your own kits, (which takes a lot of time and practice), this video will help you tremendously!

Hope that helps! Beatstruggles is full of knowledge, just use the search bar!

Thanks for the help, I'll check out those links now.

I don't really want to make my own sounds now, I'll do that later because I want to get done with most of the simple things first.

Yeah I guess it is hard for two songs to be the same, the only problem I have is choosing Komplete 8 on finance or getting new samples.

The other problem is when people say it takes years of practice to become good, I guess its true but I already practice 8 hours a day. So doing that for a long period of time will be hard.

Sorry for deleting your links in the quote, they didn't let me quote them because I need to have 20 posts.

    Haha all good,

But for your new samples, the Beatstruggles Sound Pack Flyer has huge savings on quality kits.
