    Getting started.

Hey everyone, recently fruity loops and have fallen in love with making beats. My only problem is I have no experience with the program and I don't play any instruments. I want to learn to play the keyboard to make my own melodies.my question is it worth it to learn? Does very producer play instruments? Also I'm having trouble constructing beats, I have been using the riff machine in fruity loops but it's not very helpful. Any help would be appreciated.

Get Ableton Live Suite, an learn all of it's features you'll find yourself feeling MUCH more creative in no time. Also, I'd highly recommend the samples linked in my sig.

There are 2 option I think:
    1. Learn to play the keyboard, this will help you a lot and it's really worth it.
    2. Use loops. For this, you should get Magix music maker, this sequencer has thousand of build-in loops, it also support a lot in loops and you can get more loops on the internet...

For tutorials on DAWs, just check the forum, youtube, etc.
Also reading the manual will help you a lot if you don't know anything of the program.

Im gonna take a guess and say the 70-75% of producers cannot play an instrument well enough to play it publicly. That pretty much the joy of computerized production, you dont have to be skilled, you just need to have musical ideas and you can create it.
That being said, youre not gonna load up a DAW and make amazing music, you need to practice and learn about both your DAW and your musical train of thought, thats really the only reason you get better with practice, you learn a lot more about the actual music rather than the technical instrument playing.
Also, I personally think ableton is better than FL, but if you cant figure it out at all, stay with FL for now, most knowledge of DAWs is pretty tranferrable, just different things in different places
My newest track will always be in my signature

Yup! Playing the keyboard really helps. If I was a serious music producer I would never stop learning to play the keyboard.

Look into major and minor notes. Major = happy, Minor = sad
Check out my beats. Add me on twitter. No feedback needed, I listen to beats for fun.

Just wanted to add that for hip hop you dont need to be the greatest keyboard player out there. I think overall having a basic foundation of theory and playing will help you but its not mandatory. Look at tracks like rack city, the motto, etc which are very simple tracks but do very well in hip hop. Just my thoughts haha. Good luck!
