hip hop is very vague as nicki minaj is considered hip hop and Talib Kweli is still very relevant as well. What direction do you want to go into musically between the two?

yes you are right, i don't listen to mainstream music so i don't know to which artist i should compare, but between those two its definitely talib kweli. if i can try to describe a bit more, i would say old school rap beats, i really like jazz and hip hop fusion and beats with a nice melody to go with the perscussions. oh i know who i can make illusion to, gang starr. it really illustrate the direction i wish to take in beat make
