can vsti be used in reason

Not possible... Reason does not support VSTs.

I hear some people have figured out how to play a standalone VST and route the output to one of reason's inputs. i've never tried doing this.

The easiest thing to do is ReWire Reason to FL (Reason is the slave, FL is the host), and use both at the same time. Then you could use VST instruments with Reason instruments, by way of FL. Your final mixdown would be done thru FL.

No, hence why reason is sort of limited. Of course you an learn sound design and make just about anything you want but your instruments are very limited which is why i left Reason behind early on in my music making adventure and only use it as a plugin for Cubase or what ever daw im working in.

The instruments in Reason is one of the things that really aren't a limitation. The instruments themselves, the effects, the SSL and the combinator together make them very powerful.
Reason does stand out in being different than all the other DAWs out there. It's something you like or hate, a matter of preference.
There's a lot of ppl working solely with Reason, there's a lot of ppl rewiring it, and there's a lot of ppl who stepped away from Reason completely.
Reason ain't an easy DAW. The sound is exactly gonna be what you put in. This means that whatever you know on sound design, music theory and know of Reason itself is gonna show.
Reason never implemented VSTs. At the moment with the latest update they have something that looks like it and is called Rack Extensions. The same ppl that make VSTs have made Rack Extensions for Reason. The negative point in this is that those Rack Extensions are no problem for ppl who only use Reason anyway. For all the ppl that rewire it's a bad thing. They probably won't be spending money on a RE that only works in Reason and not in their other DAW(s). Unless the RE brings something to the table that other VSTs can't.
Anyway, it's all a matter of preferences. I do everything in Reason from playing instruments to sequencing to mixing, mastering, effects, etc. It's perfectly suitable for that, but you gotta like Reason and put in the effort to learn how to do stuff in Reason.
If there's a tiny part of you hating anything in it, you're probably gonna be someone who's gonna ditch Reason. Or at the most use it rewired for some function you like a lot.

There are really tons of refills out there and now a lot of vsts are being ported over to Reason. However I still do not find Reason to be limited because of lack of vsts. You can get a lot done with just Reason. There are a lot of great vsts out there though. I personally rewire Reason to Live purely for variety because I get bored with just using Reason all of the time. Then again I keep finding myself back in Reason stand alone.

There are a few Reason only RE. Radical Pianos, Polar, Pulsar mainly the ones that Propellerheads make. I personally will likely buy only instrument RE and though I haven't bought any yet it is mostly because I am seeing vsts out there I want more a lot of the time. Some of the fx are really cool but I don't want fx that only work in Reason when I rewire and can use it either way. This caused me to skip Etch Red for example and decide to get the vst version which was in my favor because audio midi recently had Etch on sale for $20

Rewire is the way I go, I like to use some of the instruments reason has in Fl, some of those instruments just sound better to me

You can rewire it through , for example, a free open source DAW like Reaper or Mulab (i prefer reaper) and use vsts with reason this way. Since the new reason they also have link, that is specialised for Ableton.
Other then that, Reason has rack extensions made by the same companies that make the best vsts. They are only usable in reason, so that's a bit of a downfal. But, if your a Reason fanboy like me, doesn't really matter :P Reason is da bomb :p

Rewire is basically the common sense option for people not interested in midi yoke [If they not on reason 7+]
I can control other daws with reason, so I'm good if I get a vst itch.

Studio One's a secondary, FL Studio third.

P.S. Reason has been upgraded to use VSTs since about a year ago. Just wanted to update this old thread for anyone interested in Propellerhead.

just wanted to know if vst that i use in my fl studio can also be used in reason, is it possible?
When Reason 7 came out you could control the other daws without rewire to use vsts.
Then Reason 9 allowed vst integration.
Reason 7 giving us the ability to not use rewire for vst support using any EXE file you can think of for either AAX,AU or vst plugins.
Or hardware.
