Best Mic?

You need to know your vocal before you know what mic to use. And we need more information than someone will be rapping.

just a tip... if you put 2 seconds into your question you're going to get a 2 second answer. My 2 second answer is a rode nt2. Probably not for the best mic for you, but how would I know that? Im guessing what you need. It works for rap vocals. OR maybe your rapper needs a dynamic..we dont know yet.

Whats their range, etc..

the Shure SM7B Vocal Dynamic Microphone is a good choice works well with a wide range of vocals
if you can wait I would for sure go with a modified microphone around $600 check out them out and you will be amazed by the audio samples

now you'll need a audio interface to power the microphone

I suggest this audio interface Focusrite Scarlett Solo Compact USB Audio Interface

or you can grab a USB microphone to get started till you can update there nothing wrong with having a mic.locker with a few choices
no need for an Audio Interface
choice 1
choice 2
choice 3

I hope this post helps a those in the community who are new to the game
make sure you understand the quality of the microphone and study up
but when recording your worse enemy usually is the room you're recording in so some acoustic treatment
is great

you can try this as well sE Electronics SPACE Specialised Portable Acoustic Control Environment

unless you have a preamp that can provide a lot of clean gain, the sm7b is a little premature. you wont get the most out of it.

anything else at that 300 price range should be fine since you sound like you're starting out.

also mght help to rent a few mics for a weekend and see which one sounds best for your voice and the audio interface you're using.

hope that helps

You might be better off getting 2 or 3 100-150 dollar mics over one 300 dollar mic. Or you might not be..Never hurts to have more choice though...It all comes down to what the voice needs. Then you can try recording on different mics and blending the sounds together for nice doubles which aren't the same phase and sound a bit different. Send em all to a return track and make one vocal sound from 2 or 3 different mics.

Whats the best mic for recording rap vocals?

Before settling down on a mic, make sure the rest of the chain can handle it. More importantly, understand mic position, gain staging and mixing. A $100 mic performs better in the right hands vs a $3,000 mic in the wrong hands.

What's your budget?
