Im considering purchasing the Apogee Duet 2....Id like to know what you think about the interface...is it worth the 5-$600? Also what dont you like about it?
Id like to learn as much about it as i can before spending that much money on a device. Right now i have like an $80 dollar interface (LOL dont laugh too hard...i think its the alesis express...something like that) so i know it would be a big step up for me, and im looking to take my production sound to a whole nother lever. I work alot in the box tons of AU's...But yea..just give me your feedback on the interface! Thanks!

Also cant you run ANY interface with Pro Tools 10?

The Duet 2 sounds great but it does have limited I/O for that price range. You pay for the name, the size, and the quality. It is extremely mobile, but for 600+ you could get something that has 8 In 8 Out and similar sound quality, just won't be as portable or as sleek.

Ill have to agree, apogee is expensive unless you need a interface that has to be extremely small for portability. You can get better for cheaper and it will have more ins and outs. Even than I cant see how any non rack mount interface would be to big to take with you LOL?

Actually no. It is not over-priced based on the name. It really is worth the money and sounds as good as an interface that can cost $2,000. It's worth every penny. You guys obviously don't have enough experience with professional converters and interfaces if you think it's over-priced. I just bought the jam and couldn't believe how great it sounds and it's cheap. I've owned the Ensemble and the Duet is the best sounding interface in that price range period.

PT 10 can work with any interface. It's what I use.

Well thats your opinion, but if were talking about sound qaulity I think Focusrite is right up there with apogee's preamps and quite a bit cheaper.

That's just denial. I've owned probably 30 interfaces over the past 10 years and that just isn't true plain and simple.

The Apogee Minime was one of the greatest sounding interfaces ever made, especially for the size. It was almost $1,000 and worth every penny. Then came the Duet which is an improved version of the mini-me. Then came Duet2 that gives you better sound quality than the Duet and Mini-me over USB buss power. Focusrite interfaces are a joke compared to Apogee. That is not an opinion.

    This is the interface ladder.

    M-Audio/Focusrite/Emu
    Echo/Motu/TC
    RME
    Apogee
    Standalone Converters.

The only interface I've ever heard that sounded even close to an Apogee is a modded 002 or the UA Apollo, which both sound better. Other than that you need stand alone converters. I have owned an Ensemble and Focusrite stuff. The Duet is a portable version of the Ensemble. There are only three companies with built in mic pres' that I would use. Apogee, UA, and Metric Halo. They are the only interfaces that are on the level of stand alone converters.

You really expect me to believe you have bought 3 interfaces a year for the past 10 yrs?
and this whole Apogee rant your going on is a opinion and yours at that, and to say that M-Audio is in the same level as Focusrite is just plain stupid. Easily it would be up there with Motu and alot of people would argue better if were talking the same price range $600 or under. You have to remember im talking about his price range, if it was a unlimited budget it would be whole other story.

    I don't think so... There's only an audio I/O.
