i've read a lot on this site, and the whole internet about the technics cd deck being crap. however i watched a demo video yesterday on their site and it looked pretty awesome to me. all the other cd decks (especially the pioneer dj 1000, which, to me, looks overrated) look like toys with their plastic jog dials. so whats the problem with the technics?

Have you used either, to me the technics one feels more like a toy then then the pioneers.

I don't know about the technics.
But i've spoken to many people on the cdjs. And I've gotten two responses: They're Tech 12s of the Cdj world or they're very overrated and there are other cheaper options out there that do the same job).

Looks do not mater much in the pro-audio world. Try them out and get what you like.

I've had more time on the CDJ's, but my initial impression on both was I like the Pioneers much more. I've seen videos of the Techs doing amazing things, but these are two entirely different decks. If you're used to the spinning platter, you might want to look into the techs, if you're just starting out, the CDJ800 is a phenominal deck. Also, if price is a concern, the CDJ's are much less expensixe, although most places have them on backorder right now.

I have Tech m5g's and although the tech cd decks are a 12 inch platter I don't really think they feel like a real turntable. I think I like the feel of my CDJ 800's better. Even though they are smaller they still have a good feel.

i can vouch for this, i use a fellow dj's cd technics at a venue i play at, and the sound is truly squeaky and distorted, the "slipmat" feels heavy, therefore when you release to beatmatch, you will either over or under push the platter, making it out of sync. if you don't mind the size or price (even though you can find them individually on ebay for like $600) try the Numark TTX's. they are a dream to use and take no time getting used to, it really is like using vinyl!

Do NOT "feel" like TECHNICS SL-1200's! Dont let internet chatter fool you man, just TRY THEM OUT! You aren't the first to like them and you WONT be the last.
