    Sound Quality

Hey what up guys I need some help with my sound quality. I wanted to know to do I need a better sound card to get a more industry sound to my beats. I currently use a tascam fw-1082 interface/control surface and krk rokit 5 gen 2 monitors and cubase 4 to do my mixing. But I still feel as if my sound quality is not on point like I would like it. Do I also need a sound card in my cpu outside of the stock sound card or do I need to focus more on my mixing techniques?

you can check out some of my work at youtube.com/metrodollarbeatz to get a idea of my current sound quality

Hey I checked some of your beats out, most of your mixes are all in the centre, try to pan your sounds a bit more. If you have time check out Dave Pensado's videos, they helped me a lot with my mixes.

i don't see how the sound card would affect your quality at all, if you're using the FW-1082 as an interface then your computer isn't even using the soundcard.

or are you actually recording through your computer's sound card? that would be a pretty bad idea...

I check you out and most of the issues aren't the equipment, but your mixing and production techniques (not be be confused with composition which is something you have down). 99% of the time equipment is not the issue. I got my first big placement using nothing but Fruity loops Version 3 and it landed as the theme song for the 2008 VH1 Hiphop honors.

The Tascam is fine - I used to have one of the many years ago. What I recommend is learning how to EQ, compress, Pan, Side-chain, and apply effects like delays and reverbs correctly and you will hear a huge difference. Also Mastering can go a long way. Ozone is a great program for this, but again that is another skill set. I would pay someone to do it for you, but teach you at the same time. learning proper mixing and mastering will take years. Finally USE Great sounds from the jump If you need some follow the link in my signiture to get some really killers KICKs and other goodies. Enjoy!

thanks for the info guys. I think you guys are right at this point it has to be my mixing not the equipment. I tired some of the vids jeefoproductions suggested and they were great however. I think I need to start from scratch with my mixing techniques and find some vids that start from top to bottom on the general aspects of mixing. I know there is a lot to learn on how to mix so I just need some info to get me on the right track. Any suggestions? Without having to pay for it I would rather learn myself.
