Very new to "DJing"...not sure its considered DJing tho nowadays. basically just playing electro/house music at clubs, not exactly scratching and all the badass stuff like DJ Am and those guys do. Anyways, Im new so i just wanna get to the point right now that i can play some music at a party, club, etc and make the crowd enjoy themselves and wanna dance of course! buut..my library is lacking...tremendously :/....so im curious how many of you guys out there download music illegally? or actualy pay or every single song....just curious. lol

I will admit I Get most illegally but I'm not big just house party's and such so I can justify it in my mind but I produce too and I know why it's bad to steal muisc and feel bad doing it but i still do it

A very small percentage of my music is not paid for. I'm just not one for illegally downloading music.

I'm not big on DJing; I've only ever "performed" on my equipment in private at home, but when I do I usually use CDs, because I use Pioneer CDJs.

I recommend going on a CD shopping binge. If you have a tremendously lacking library, you will want to buy at least 500 US dollars worth of CDs in order to get started.

    Daft Punk
    Kraftwerk
Moby (early pre-Animal Rights stuff, maybe Last Night as well)
Fatboy Slim (may be a little tough to work with though, since he tends to use syncopated breakbeats. Certianly can't go wrong with "The Rockafeller Skank" though of course)
    JUSTICE!!!
    The Chemical Brothers

Are some recommendations I have. There are many more much better options out there but I tend to hold something of a dislike for much of that stuff.

If you are getting paid to DJ you really should pay for those songs. Who needs a DJ anymore now that you have Spotify though?

For me, I can care less if I get my music legally or illegally. (We are dj's, we help promote artist's.) All that matters is that the music is the best quality as possible. Use youtube and blogs as sources to find music. (type blogspot.com in google and search around using key words like "Free music" with whatever genre you are searching) Use Itunes, MEdiafire, and mp3 pool sites like Mymp3pool.com and Djcity.com to download music.

The key when downloading music for free is looking at the size of the file. The bigger the file, the better the quality. I dont waste my time downloading anything under 7 MB unless I really need to. You want to aime for bit rates above 200, like 256 and 320. 192 is whatever, anything below will not have the full effect.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ASK ANOTHER DJ TO COPY HIS LIBRARY ON A USB. ITS A ROOKIE MISTAKE, I DID THAT WHEN I STARTED OUT AND I LOOK BACK AND SHAKE MY HEAD. because as you dig deeper and deeper in blogs and what not, you come across gems that not many people play, and you realize the time and hard work it takes to find club bangers.

We are lucky with technology that we don't have to be digging through crates anymore. I call this new generation of music searching "Mp3 digging".

You're just another corny ass DJ that barely does anything but push play. YOU are what is wrong with the current club scene.

I just realized there's no poll option for a percentage between 75 and 100.

Hahahaha. I don't even remember typing that, hence the drunkness. I'm not on this site to be arguing with people bruh. I take pride in my craft as a Dj, but I also understand the business. And I don't think 2 click flares, crabs, and beat juggling are in the same boat as "pushing play". I have hours of recorded material if you really want to hear my "pushing play" ways. I offer competition to the dj community, I talk smack, but I can sure as hell back my stuff up. Can you?
