I was in Mars Music today and they were playing a video that taught you scratching basics. Not sure the name of the video. But I was watching it for a bit. In the start they had this guy (dunno who) scratching. I was watching his hand on the xfader, and something confused me. He was standing behind the decks and the camera was in front. So in the camera view, deck 1 was to the right and deck 2 was to the left. When he was scratching, he had a track playing on deck 1 and scratching on 2. He was moving the xfader from the middle to deck 2 being full. I noticed that when he would move the xfader to full deck 2, you could still hear the sing on deck 1 playing. Can anybody explain this? The only thing I can think of is he had the xfader reversed. Is there any other possibilities?

Do most DJs scratch with teh xfader reversed?

reversed cross fader or reversed wiring. or maybe the cross fader was assigned to just one side.

he probably had an x-fader curve selector, that brings the volume of the cue deck to full much before it hits the center, and doesn't cut the volume of the "singing" deck until it's completely on the other side.

Talking MINE WORKS LIKE THAT !!!!!

    Sik-brekas is probably right.

I use a Technics SH-DJ1200 'DMC Scratch' mixer and the fader basically works like a switch.

Therefore you don't have to worry too much about the volume of say the singing (you mentioned) cutting out until the fader near enough touches the other side.

Whenever it's anywhere in the middle region no changes in the volume of either track will occur.

It was only a two channel mixer. And he was bringing it all the way to the other side, you could hear it click.

Hamster style is how I learned how to scratch some 10 years ago and is still the method I employ. It's a ***** though becasue whenever you're at a club you can gurantee they wont be said up that way and most mixers dont have an assign or a "hamster" switch. I find it odd that an instructional video would actually teach this method though. PEACE

I have to repost for that horrible gramatical error I noticed when I was reading my post. "Said up" should be "set up"...Thats a horrible one and didnt want it uncorrected.
