    of course I only know the Pioneer DJM 500 of these two mixers,
    the Pioneer is a proofed workhorse, however a) there are some downfalls (do a forum search, you can read it on any dj related forum) b) there may be better options today;
    my conclusion: if you think of buying a pioneer DJM 500 today, it is a good buy if you are able to make a good price/get a rebate or something equal;
    you should consider how much the price difference between the Pioneer and the denon X1500, the rane empath, the xone 62 and the new Ecler Nuo is (these mixer are newer designs and offer some advantages) and if you are willing to spend a bit more
    (eitherway I would consider the DJM 500 a classic, it isnīt possible to go totally wrong)

    regarding the rotary you mentioned: there are some rotary owners on this board and they will tell you about the rotomix and I donīt think that they will tell you too good thinks about that mixer; the most important thing about a rotary mixer is the sound quality and the quality/controllability of the rotary pots: just compare the price and the features of the rotomix to other rotary mixers on the market (rane 2016, vestax pmc 46 mk II) and make your own conclusions

    another option

    if you are considering a rotary, do yourself a favor and consider a Bozak -- they can go for anywhere from 600 - 2000

    they are high, and have few features, but the sound quality is unsurpassed............

    read more at wavemusic.com

    PS i have both bozaks and the rane -- although the Rane is alright, for the price, I would pick up a Bozak and have it professionally serviced.

    I think there are much better choices for both Rotary and fader mixers. I would spend some more time looking into the matter. Try some mixers out if you can.

    rotary mixers kick, if you can get a hold of a good one your views will totally change.
    proud bozak owner, just need to get it fully restored, it has a few minor things that need taken care of, but nothing a little tlc cant fix i'm sure.

    yeah i did see that review. but that doesn't mean i agree w/ it. Like i said to you on tranceaddict.com, peavy mixers shouldn't cost more than $200. And for good reason too. I promise that piece of crap will fall apart in a year or so. I've delt with peavy mixers, amps, speakers, powered mixers and they are all of sub par quality. If your gonna spend $800 or more for a rotary than go for a rane mp-2016. Or if you wan't something with effects like the djm-500/600 may i suggest you wait for the ecler Nuo-5 to come out or get something of good quality like a xone-62.

    If you don't believe me; on one of my pics on the bottom link will show me playing w/ a pdx-2000 and in the background on the floor is a pair of 15" two-way peavy speakers.

    MY .02

    for $800 find a Bozak in good shape -- I have both the Rane MP/XP combo and a (2) Bozaks -- for the money Bozak way better -- one of them I got for $600 and it was the 10-2DLA (2 phono, 4AUX, 2 Mic)

    thing is the Bozak just has better build quality (transistors and capicitors vs. IC chips in everything from the URIE on...) and better 'sound' -- definately more tube-like, the highs are rounded (not harsh as is the case with the Rane -- not externally EQ'd either w/ XP unit or other EQ) and the Bozak has MUCH stronger BASS -- the Rane pales in comparison.

    If you have an opportunity to hear them do so, it's really the only way...

    sound preferences are such a personal thing, and remember that technical specs don't really count -- the human ear is a much better judge.

    Maybe if you might like to scratch you should get the RANE --that is why i have one, but i tell ya -- i do not think the sound quality is great comming out of the rane, but i can scratch on it

    Good Luck in your Search and BUY A BOZAK...
