Hi, I've been mixing house etc for a good few years now, but I have decided to expand. The other day I got my act together and bought a pair of Ortofon scratch carts. Now before this, I have never really tried to scratch, well rarley tried...so I have not set up the tracking etc propperly. Ive never had any problems with skipping really, but now I am learning to scratch, the needle frequently skips. This has probly been asked many times....but.... Is there an easy tutorial on how to set up all aspects of the needle, arm etc? I'm lost! thanks....

best tutorial - get Qbert - DIY volume 1 on DVD.

make sure the hole for the spindel on the record isnt loose - if it is tighten it by putting a sticker through the hole and folding it over.

    anti-skate = 0

    vinyl cant be warped

arm should be as level as you can get it with the weight a bit heavier than you would usually have it - or all the way down its up to you.

good turntables are pretty much essential as a wobbly platter with make the needle skip.

i would recommend shure M44-G / M44-7 needles but since you just bought some new 1s its too late.

slipmats - obviously you wont have big rubber ones but try to make them as easy to move as possible - cut out a plastic circle from a record cover and use it as a slipmat - or buy some butterrugs.

make sure your decks are on a steady table/surface.

if you have a mixer with fader curve control put it al the way down so the sound comes in crisp and quickly.

    i think thats everything...
