    Heyaz !!!
I am sure people need such a device.
Recording your own mixes or whatever is gr8 and amazing ...
    here is some Info...
You can record from any analog or digital sources at bit-rates up to 160 kBps and can port your recordings back to the PC without any specialized software. It also doubles as an extremely portable USB 1.1 hard drive (USB 2.0 on JB Recorder 20) for PC or Mac laptops or desktop computers, and you are able to store your data and photos at the same time.

This exciting Jukebox Recorder & Player is the first palm-sized, real-time MP3 encoder, plus an MP3 Player and USB Hard Drive that connects to the computer through an ultra-fast USB interface. There’s no need for special software to download MP3 songs. Just drag & drop MP3 files from windows Explorer or from your Mac desktop.

You can also use your Jukebox Recorder & Player as an optional hard drive to store all your data, images, software, etc. Update with a simple click at the ARCHOS website and download the latest firmware that supports additional software extensions. Merge your entire collection of MP3s and CDs into one hand-held device. Slip it into your pocket, and listen to all your favorite music wherever you go.

    The archos Jukebox with 20GB H.D costs - 360USD

Anyone know another device that do the same thing but cheaper ?

Try www.shopper.com and www.pricewatch.com. If I were you I'd consider other options too, Archos is not the only company that makes these recorders...

I havn't heard any recordings made with the Archos or Creative Nomad Jukebox, but I have seen one pretty big local DJ who carries a Nomad to all his sets to record. Personallly I use a laptop and record at 320 kbps. Also be sure to check out minidiscs, the treble is better than mp3, but you're limited to 80 mins without MDLP (which coincidentally, sounds only slightly better than mp3 but a mdlp recorder costs as much as the jukeboxes you've mentioned.)

If only Apple had put a recording function on their iPod, that would have sold me on it!

Exactly what i thought, I reckon that someone out there will introduce a recording device for an iPod. Imagine... little white box, RCA in, Firewire out, automatically encode line level input into MP3 @ 320kbps. it could even get the power to do the encoding from the iPod. mmm.... They could even record in AIFF format, you'd still be able to fit about 500 minutes of recording time on it!!!!

It would be quite simple, you'd just use the ipod as a HD, and use the little box to do all the difficult stuff!

Mind you it would stop the need for using an apple computer, and that's a baaaad thing!! (I now expect to get flamed!!)

I wish they had made it a standard hard drive as well It would be the ultimate for small physical size portable storage. Unfortunately they did some misc stuff to it and wrote their own protocol for transfer, and the end result is: digital rights management, and no native PC compatibility. The 3rd party software for PC isn't near as good as iTunes, and no uni* support. That last option is the make/break for me, if they don't support uni*, I can't use it.

So has anyone tried one of these ARCHOS recorders out? Looking to get one (or possibly a minidisc).

it will soon don't worry. i stuck my head in at the creative skunkworks place and the one they showed me not only had an lcd but line in and firewire in for recording dv from camera's. i just assumed the current zen recorded as well.

they gave me a nice mp3 discman at the end of my tour. but it needs new firmware already >:[
