Are you using the record out of your mixer? Have you got decent levels when you are recording?

im using the main "master out" rca outputs from the back of my mixer. depending on which record im playing i have to fool with the levels. for the most part my records are white label "bootlegs" so some records need adjusting some dont. also i was using ortofon needles which is over priced and total crap and switched to stanton groove master which is cheaper and sounds a lot better. but the thing is my sound is coming out distorted on my pc. could it be possible its the mixer and not the sound card???? the mixer was on sale for one hundred fiddy bucks what can i say im a cheapo!!!!! any more help is appreciated.

What Ortofons did you have? Set up correctly, most of them are among the best sounding DJ carts out there.

The mixer is a weak link, but not nearly as weak as your soundcard choices. You are trying to use consumer-grade soundcards to get a "professional" sound. Find a card like the M-audio Audiophile or something like that, and you will be on your way. Then, when you can, upgrade your mixer. Beyond that, keep your vinyl clean, run as hot as possible without clipping anything (no clipping in or after the mixer), and then you should be good to go.

Many people have the misconception that the louder a signal is, the better. If you are running your mixer meters in the red, then you are clipping your signal, and asking for garbage sound quality. But again, the soundcard is absolutely the biggest problem for now.

Connect the Behringer to a good sound system and I suspect you may find the problem. I own a Behringer VMX300 and think its a great mixer, unfortunately the signal from the both out and main out has degraded over time. To be honest I'm not sure why (and for the price I paid I'm not complaining)but I wont sell it second hand because of the problem. Can you borrow a better mixer for an experiment?

If you are redlining on the mixer, on the master output levels or the line outputs levels that could be the problem.

If your level is peaking on the software that you are recording on that could be a problem as well.

Good Luck with your Mix, I would love to hear it,,,,,when your done, post it to www.Xfade.US

    Cheers

another thing, if you are using the mic input on the soundcards you're gonna get distorted crap. Make sure you have the mixer plugged into Line-In on your sound card.
