Using Ableton As a Effect Mixxer For Dj'ing

Im wondering how can you set up your dj equipment ( cdj 1000 mk3's and say a pioneer djm 600/800 mixxer ) to run through ableton so you can use all the features and effects? Would you go from the master out of the mixxer to the record input of your computer and then out to the speakers?

Is it possible to record your set in ableton and use the effects live in the recording or would it need to be done after the recording?

Id be interested to hear any other tips and tricks that can be done with dj'ing and ableton if there are any

Thanks

There's a tutorial on youtube. If you have a mac (I do) you can send Traktor into Ableton using a third party program like Soundflower. As I have an older mac, this eats up a ton of CPU -- though, the possibilities to live loop and scratch atop a sample do seem endless when you get it hooked up. the sound will be going out of Ableton when it goes to your mixer, presuming the sound is going from computer to mixer, of course.

In this setup, you wouldn't be able to record the set in Traktor. And if you record in Ableton Live, everything will be registered as Audio, as opposed to Midi. Finally, if you're EQing a mix in Ableton, you'll probably want the EQ Three preset as it's meant to replicate a standard DJ mixer.
