I'm too much of a perfectionist for my own good, then one day I'm like "just finish it and get it out!".

yes, i'm very perfectionistic. sometimes i tread my music just like work.
I used to be so perfectionistic when i started that i collected over 500 drumkits from the internet. Spend months on it. just collecting.
Now i still need to collect VSTi's.
And i also collected vinyl like everywhere i could go but i've grown out of that cause i don't have the space for it anymore. Now I collect mp3 Discographies from artists more and more.
My Music Collection is HUGE on my PC. I have extra harddrives for it.
As far as music. I only quit adding instruments when i feel like the music gets too busy. too much going on at the same time.
so i'm also perfectionistic for my sampling and melodies.
and i always want the right drumsounds and patterns and everything. that fit with the sample.
I have like 10 go-to drumkits which just simply sound better than 400 of the garbage kits i own. I have a lot of drummachines kits you know. some of em sound very cheap.
I noticed i'm more perfectionistic when i loop a sample than when i used chops.

I always been perfectionistic. Even as a kid when i used to design comic-figures etc.

All that depth and dimension is worthless if the music isn't good to begin with.

No...actually i avoid "critiquing" people on their music, because people catch feelings.

What I was talking about, was his mix.

He said it shouldn't take any more than 2 hours from start to finish, to make a beat.

And that's simply not true. The mix alone can take a few hours to get it just right.

The mixing process is where the magic happens. It can make or break a track.

One man's treasure is another man's trash. So if you think my music is "average" then that's cool. I'm okay with that. And if you think my music is incredible, then I'm okay with that too.

But I just make the music, and leave it up to people like you to think what you want to think about it.

    I read your original comment.

Mixing a beat is apart of making a beat.

And there is no time frame for which a mix should or shouldn't take. Sometimes I'm mixing a song over 3 days.

You mix until you get it right.

There is a time limit. When you get into the big leagues, people give you deadlines. That's how the world works. You have to learn how to do stuff under pressure.

It's all about the time bro.. i haven't read all of the replies so i don't know if anyone touched this or not but..When working on something yo just PUT IT OUT lol.
Times are always going to change, your feelings are going to change, your ideas are going to grow and you're going to get better. And yes Dre is a perfectionist but he put out
countless albums for himself as well as other artist, he didn't sit there second guessing his material.
You put your stuff out do the best you can, and then 6months to a year or 2 things are going to change and like now it's all about the pop/electro/dubstep sound. Rap and
R&B artist are fusing those into their styles now days. I've even heard some of the most GUTTA rappers spit over a dubstep track. But my point is, there's a difference between
being a perfectionist and just holding yourself back. There's always going to be room for improvement, that's what the remix is for lol. Do your records release them get feedback use the pearls of wisdom to make the next album better and keep it moving.

Now to answer your question, i am a perfectionist.. I will sit there and craft my own sounds, tweak a kick for 30 mins to an hour, come back to it the next day and flip it again. i'll go in and make the most simple sound do something crazy like go from speaker to speaker using surround sound plugins so that it gives a 3d effect, bounce it and bring it back in as stereo and then later decide i don't like the beat at all, scratch it, and do something totally different lol.
If it's not big and emotional heart pounding "edge of your seat" sounding- to me - i'll rework it until it is.

I think I am....Ive been working on my abum for 5 yrs....the reason its taking me long ios becuase of production...Ive done scraped through 50 beats..........for my album...ive actually recorded 7 spngs.....2 yrs ago for it...and didnt like em...grew tired of em.... mostly becuase the sound quality that the studio reproduced...........

Enough about me, but I like my beats perfrct or leasst near perfect.....especially during the mix.......or the melody...I lkike the melody to be top notch also...thats why when I hear new music it insipres me to create again...........then the cycle starts over lol...me creating my album

for example 5 yrs ago.....wehen I heard Lil Johns music...i was like that would be tight to put on my album

now Im hearing lex lugers sound....that would be great to put on my album,,,,,,and this techno hip hop stuff as well

I guess hip hop changes so much that ui have to constantly reinvenet yourself...and I think thats why Dre is having a hard time.

Anybody else near to being a perfectionist
