Are you a perfectionist like say Dr. Dre are in your oown right?

I think I am....Ive been working on my abum for 5 yrs....the reason its taking me long ios becuase of production...Ive done scraped through 50 beats..........for my album...ive actually recorded 7 spngs.....2 yrs ago for it...and didnt like em...grew tired of em.... mostly becuase the sound quality that the studio reproduced...........

Enough about me, but I like my beats perfrct or leasst near perfect.....especially during the mix.......or the melody...I lkike the melody to be top notch also...thats why when I hear new music it insipres me to create again...........then the cycle starts over lol...me creating my album

for example 5 yrs ago.....wehen I heard Lil Johns music...i was like that would be tight to put on my album

now Im hearing lex lugers sound....that would be great to put on my album,,,,,,and this techno hip hop stuff as well

I guess hip hop changes so much that ui have to constantly reinvenet yourself...and I think thats why Dre is having a hard time.

Anybody else near to being a perfectionist

Practice makes perfect however there's no such thing as perfect. The never ending spiral.

When it comes to the artistic side, yeah I'm more on the perfectionist side. When it comes to planning, not as much, in the sense that I'll make a mental plan and follow it, but in the event that something doesn't go as planned I'll become stagnant, half contemplating a new route, half waiting to see if the original plan will recover, overall wasting a lot of time, lol. Gotta get in the habit of turning mental plans into written plans.

    Absolutely.

I've been working on this record for about 3 weeks, because it just doesn't "feel" right. I nitpick about every single detail.

But with that said, at some point, you have to let it be "good enough". Because all the time you're spending making the record "perfect", when people finally hear it, they won't care...because it'll be 2 years old.

To a point but I also dont like holding a beat for a month cause I dont like a hi hat or something, kind of counter productive.

The biggest things we notice as producers are usually not even an issue for the average listener. Sometimes I'm a perfectionist on stuff, but if you never finish it and put it out what's the point of spending so much time on it?

You think they don't notice, but they do. They don't know that they are noticing, but they are.

All they know is "I don't like this song", or "this song sounds funny". They don't know that the mix is off. Or they don't know that the eq on the cymbal crash is all wrong. Or they don't know the sub bass is out of phase.

All they know is that the song doesn't "feel" right.

    Trust me...those little things matter...ALOT.
