hip-hop is the biggest hypocrite genre, think about it, the whole genre is based on sampling without giving any credit and often not even paying any royalties, then another hip-hop artist steals your shit and you loose it

he did give lord finesse credit on the tape though

Too many people are focusing on the sample involved but isn't this lawsuit about the composition? It being chopped and rearranging into a new melody creates a new composition and Lord Finesse's joint is a new sound recording. The sample isn't in question but if Mac Miller would have had the beat remade with the same sample with case in a Pete Rock Lupe Fiasco type of situation. Then again that goes into cover territory when talking about that. Its a blurry area

That's a great point and i've honestly never heard the song. If thats the case, then Finesse might have a leg to stand on.

Not so much. It was built on building with what you have. They weren't trying to steal they didn't know there were any laws against sampling in the first place because at the time there were not. There technically still aren't but then you get sued for "stealing" but there are no set in stone rules about it other than pay clearances for it. It later became popular to not pay clearances because they made it impossible to create records the way we always had because it was so expensive and you would spend your whole record budget on one song because back then they would layer 10 songs into one song. I found this video interesting from 1989 when the sample suing started.

You can't go to a museum, grab a Picasso, cut along the outlines, rearrange the pieces so they fit, then put your signature on it and call it your "Art", then turn around and sue someone who does the exact same thing to your arrangement.

Lord Finesse took the sample and completely obliterated it. This case is the first time I heard the sample actually lol. But listen to how close these are I couldn't find the original sample on YouTube but here are Mac and Finesses versions and an amazon link to the sample

Mac Miller - Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza (Music Video) - YouTube

Lord Finesse - Hip 2 Da Game (1995) [HQ] - YouTube

Amazon.com: Dream Of You: The Oscar Peterson Trio: MP3 Downloads

Having not heard the Mac Miller version until recently I just thought Mac sampled Finesse and that was the beef and I thought that was retarded but this dude is suing him over using his beat. I am not sure how I feel about that.

My opinion of music barely holds light to this clusterf*ck. I'm not indifferent to sampled music. Some of my favorite songs were created from some looped vynil and dusty drums. Fact is, using other peoples work to create your own . . . is still using other peoples work. If they don't like what you did with it, kick rocks.

Your saying that an exception should be made because your creative? You took an idea and turned it into something else? That's like Ford building a car on Chevy frame, slapping thier logo on it, changing the headlights, and calling it something different. . . . I hope someone else uses one of your ideas to get rich.
