Why don't more music websites require auditions for sign up?

I just sent in my audition to be accepted onto pumpaudio.com yesterday and I was wondering why more music websites like PMP or SC don't give that format a try.

They could still charge their standard join fees but prior to that they could require a user that wants to join to send in two audition mp3s. Then have a group of judges or something similar decide whether or not your audition is good enough for you to join. If you pass then they could ask for the $10 or $50 or just let em in if its a free account. On the surface it seems like that could be a very effective filter and reduce saturation.

But I guess they're after the cash and if a dummy with sucky beats wants to pay up to sell nothing then that's their problem.

I know there are holes here and there What do yall think?

Numbers and traffic drive advertising on the web so exclusive clubs don't do well. The more members mean more word spreading which means higher advertising rates... Look at FP... do you think there are actually 200,000 plus members now? (some people account for 50 of the accounts by themselves). That number gets to stay there for the WOW factor.

If they ran a scan on the accounts that have had logins over the last 3 months and got a count of active members... it wouldn't look as impressive as 200,000. It would be like 2,000 if that.

So in order to seem bigger than life, sites have to have a lot of members and can't really turn people away.

Its sort of like the guys that come on here an say vaguely "I'M SELLING BEATS ALL THE TIME"... the beats are for sale for $5 but the smoke and mirrors of people thinking they're selling tons of beats at GOOD PRICES sounds impressive.

That PROMOTE BEATS.COM idea sort of fits what you're talking about. People hand pick who they like an promote those beats.

Ah I see what you're saying. But what about a website like PMP? I know they drive away a lot of traffic as it is because of the $50 fee, but they still do very well. I don't know their current traffic level but how much could that audition format hurt them?

I see how Pumpaudio can manage tho. Since they get a 70% cut of all the deals that go through and the clients paying BIG bucks, that equals a lot of return for them.

Websites and music are strange animals... if someone passes the audition that's no guarantee that they appeal to the masses, only the approvers on the site.

Look at the PMP featured playlist, people complain about the songs in it sometimes but those people had their songs picked by people PMP. I guess it's the one mans trash is another mans treasure theory.

People are complaining about HOT SELLING ARTIST on this site... what if those people had a site and rejected these hot selling artists because of their personal preference? there would be a void - nobody would notice it but it would be there.

This is totally untrue. Most people that have to judge submissions already know what they clients are looking for. Thus increases the chances of something happening.

PMP is not the same as Pump Audio by a long shot.

    Never address me again. Thanks.

I have no interest in your theories, beliefs, comments, etc. Please comment on the initial question. It's in the thread title.

^ I know theres a big difference, but how big of an effect does that difference make towards using the audition style of sign up

When you can just accept any submissions based of a payment fee. Then the chances of actual getting something becomes slim. Reason being, because there is no filter.
When you have a filter, you know exactly what you are looking.

So, by the audition method you have a bigger effect of making something taking place.
Instead, of just collecting a fee off top and letting the chips fall where they may.

I know that, that's basically what I was saying in the OP. That's why I'm asking why more music websites don't try that. I think at least PMP could work something out.
