I understand that people like what they like but I also think we need songs that people can relate to. I think this is a song most of us can relate to. The rapper is from Seattle. Something of a local icon named E Dawg. Anyway check it out and share with a friend.

Solid track thanks. By staying clear of content the everyday adult can relate to mainstream hip hop has cut itself off from a huge demographic (ages 27-45) thus limiting its overall impact. So the older heads that still love hip hop instead are rocking to new adult R&B or are content with older hip hop which did have mainstream music that they can relate to. Then the younger kids are turning more and more to the Top 40 pop/electric/dubstep genres which leaves hip hop caught between a rock and a hard place leaving your favorite acts selling way less (and killing off your production royalty checks in the process).

In other words, GROW UP hip hop and expand your buying audience potential

Tupac was 21 when he dropped "Keep Your Head Up", a record that people from 8 to 80 could relate to and rock with which helped him do huge numbers. Now you have rappers nearly TWICE Tupac age that are making music to appeal to kids HALF the age of Tupac when he dropped his classic. This limits the topics rappers can touch and the sales are reflecting that...

Stick him on a boom bap beat, and I'd have that on repeat, but the beat fails the rapper in my opinion there. The beat has to be good(for me to listen it to it again), but that's my opinion. However, I agree with what you're saying, and the lyrics are something everyone can relate to...

People equate talking about something real to being soft

    ... so they play hard.

... and somehow, somewhere... being real got crossed up with being ignorant and violent.

We complain about the nonsense, but the reality is that rappers are reflections of society. Our top movies (sales wise) are not the ones with complex plots and dialogue, it the ones with the explosions and cheap jokes. Our news is not in depth reporting, its filled with sound bites, quick clips, and whatever new gadget CNN can whip out. Most people like looking and listening to entertaining stuff, with very little depth. Everybody wants to have fun and think about getting paid. It's just the world we live, I don't blame MCs cause I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago.

The reason nobody makes "meaningful" music is because no outlet will play it and nobody wants to be put in a "listening" mood.

Music that does well will be about

    Partying
    Losing a significant other

    Nothing else...

My GENIUS idea was to get Angie Stone to cover all uncovered anthems and we'd get rich together. She would make songs about -

    Graduation
    Mother's Day
    Father's Day
New Years (1999 is the only anthem now)
    Valentine's Day
    MLK Day
    It's a Boy
    It's a Girl
Marriage - not a marriage themed song - straight up marriage
    Funerals

    Even Halloween

All for the RnB/Hip Hop crowd... radio would be forced to play them. Every party would play them 5 times in a row... I left a bunch of occasions off...

You should follow this up... Sounds like a pretty good idea... Especially the marriage one... And if the graduation song stayed old school, it would easily go mainstream, and appeal to both markets(youth and the older generations)...

I know it work because the only song about Father's Day is Luther's Dance with my father and that's about him passing away... there needs to be a happy one.

All other anthems are about Christmas and Anniversaries.... they left a bunch of 'em off.

Angie Stone has that easy going voice to where she can just pile all of 'em on one album and it'll be the best selling album ever, lol.

We'll even have on called.... I GOT A NEW JOB

    there will be

    I hate Mondays (Monday Blues)
These people get on my nerves

    We'd cover everrrryyyy thang

---------- Post added at 11:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 AM ----------

Think about Cameo and "Single Life" ... that's a milestone moment for people that are getting out of bad relationships so that song still works.

Any milestone moment could be a hit.

Songs like "Take this job and shove it" is about the moment somebody quits their job... big record and probably still gets play.
