I'm gonna haveta admit. I like the track with Jay-z called Beware. In fact I think it's the hottest track that has been released as of late. I find that either people love this track or they hate it beyond belief. Incorporating different world rhythms and styles has been a fad recently in hiphop. Diwali, Bangra (i think thats what this india stuff is called) and a range of influences are starting to pop up in hiphop, in a desperate attempt to find new production styles. It seems like producers are reaching outside hiphop to add to it. My question is, how does this make you feel? There are your classic boom and bap fans, and people that like traditional hiphop and don't like the way that hiphop is evolving. For instance Premo swears by staying true to hiphop and it's culture. But, I personally believe that the incorporation of new styles will help breed a new generation of innovation in the rap game. Short and simple, bringing other types of music and blending them with hiphop will bring new sounds. Possibly alternatives to this pop Ja Rule **** that I have to plug my ears to on a daily basis. Any thoughts? Do you like the fact that hiphop tracks are incorporating influences from other cultures?

I think hip Hop is headed in a bad direction.....Downward Spiral....

Its trying to do too many genres at the same time now- and isn't remaining pure...

Hell, the emceeing hasn't been pure since 94......

Its nice to use other cultures once in a while- but its absurd these days.......

And I can't stand the techno/rap beats either.....That shiet's wack and ain't got no soul.....

Hip hop is losing the soul I think.....It needs to go back.....

Which is why that Young Guns song is aite......At least its hip hip-
I got new songs coming up soon.

Hip hop will be spinning off into something else in about 5-7 years. Somebody unknown will introduce a style and somebody else will jack that fool and get rich off it...therefore opening a huge hole for copycats who wil cash in.

After this disco/grunge like period, everything will go way, way back...to like a pre-80's style of rap and....

    That's it.

What's pure hip-hop? Hiphop started out with rapping over disco music. So if you really want ot talk about purity, let's keep it real. The boom bap era was an evolution, it was not the beginning. Granted, it may have the distinction of being rap's golden era, but it was not the ground zero of hiphop evolution.
That being said, hiphop production has always had a history of borrowing from other music genres, whether it be disco, heavy metal, classic rock, jazz, classical, acoustic, r&b, house, or soul. This East Indian influence is just a new chapter in hiphop sample production. When that wears thin, we'll find something else to sample. For all you Triton lovers/users, the keyboard of choose before that was the Kurzweil K2000. The Triton will eventually sound outdated, and some other board will take its place. There's nothing wrong with change, or evolution. Hiphop would be stale without it.

I agree....Well put. I get tired of people dictating what hip-hop should be. Life is about change, evolution, it is what it is.
