Rhythm and pitch can be fixed with no problem. But I'm pretty sure the "Make Sexy Time" button hasn't been added to this latest release of the Beatmaker VST.
are the artist new to the music making process?

like what are the artist background?

    singing in the shower?

Does any of that matter? They are an artist, and they want to make a record.

Can't necessarily tell them 'come back when you have studio recording experience', now can u?

Sometimes, you work with the artist because they want your expertise on their records...and they have that check that's gonna keep the lights on for the next few months.
if this is the case... the producer must be honest with themselves...

not too many can turn sh!t into gold...

therefore... the producer knows the parameters going into the project... i.e. sink or swim!!!

at this point... it is about professionalism!!! and making sure that the check does not bounce...

So if you say "yo youre not on beat, youre not in tune" lol to them theyre like "what are you talking about, yes i am"

until they hear the difference between a completed project and the takes they recorded

Drew, that's actually a pretty great idea. Almost like justifying your worth.

"This is what the record sounded like from just the raw recording. This is what it sounds like after everything I applied to it".

Then again, I walk the line of doing that, because I don't want the singer to go "oh...I sound that bad? Maybe I should re-think this whole singing thing". I want them to get their record and think OMG, I SOUND SO AWESOME, I WANT TO MAKE 50 MORE RECORDS JUST LIKE THIS!!!

this begs the question... is the producer running a school for artists or conducting a recording session?

i.e. a drummer comes to the session... and the tune is in 5/4... but you have to teach the drummer what 5/4 is....

lol word, or they might use that as a crutch "oh its okay if it sounds bad, just fix it later", but sometimes people dont know what theyre doing wrong until they see it

That microphone voice into the headphones is some scary shit. They don't know that person they are hearing yet.....they must get to know that person. They must feel their self being a part of that adventure of music they hear.....they must feel comfortable in that adventure while they are recording.

A good idea with new people is to record the whole thing for about an hour...no overdubs, no running any thing back, no fixing anything. A good 8, 9 takes of practice...(that they are feeling is the real thing). Let them giggle at their selves when they mess up, let them say to their selves out loud how silly they sound. Let them get all of that shit out the way early. With in the last take of that hour, start guiding them. You are then pretty much familiar with all of their problems, and more familiar with the song as a whole.

Everyone has some magic in them. Even captain caveman has some magic.
