    Not sure how and why this has become an argument/debate. But let me put it this way, I'm behind brodel on this one. You wouldn't have had Kanye West without J Dilla... Same with Marley Marl, no Marley Marl. You'd have no DJ Premier, and the lists can go on. Also, J Dilla(or his mother said it) once said he based most of the music he made off of Pete Rocks earliest stuff, the beats he did for InI... So no Pete Rock, no Dilla... Like I said the list goes on.

    And also, no one is going to reply to attention seeking statements about J dilla being shit. Cause everyone who knows of him, respects him. And those who don't respect him, probably don't respect the forefathers of Hip Hop, and in essence, don't respect the culture... But they'll probably come out with the next trap shit and be like 'Yeah, I was influenced heavily off of Lex Luger(etc)' The interviewers going to be like 'What about J Dilla(etc)?' and you know the dude will be like 'Yeah, sorry, I don't know who the **** you're on about?!'

    If you don't respect the forefathers of Hip Hop, you don't respect the culture. You don't even have to like J Dillas music, but you got to respect his formulas.

    My 2 cents.
    and like this.

    I don't think its producers not respecting j dilla more so his music just may not influence the type of hip hop they make. I wouldn't expect a producer who does a lot of southern based hip hop to really be influenced let along know who j dilla really is especially the younger generation.

    I believe that knowing history is important however if you make dope tracks but don't really know your history that doesn't change the fact that your tracks are dope. You can be a history expert but if your tracks ain't up to par knowing the history doesn't change the fact you need to step beat game up.

    That beat is straight garbage with busta flowing good. Producers from the south dont give a dam about this j dilla dude period,he didnt influence none of us. East coast niggas have to realize that rap was born in NY but down south has more music history like blues,jazz etc.. We dont really respect sample base producers period,we look up to original music not crate digging producers. I think west coast producers are the same because they grew up listening to some type funk sound.

    That's the thing about these young producers. I could see if JDilla wasn't a behind the scenes type dude. I'm older than 80% of FP..........and now I respect JDilla as I learn more about his influence. But you young cats acting like you lived through JDilla's music....smh. I know good and well a lot of people my age wasn't thinking about "who the producer of a rap song was" unless they're name was included in a group or they just popped up everywhere all on the videos or always had interviews. But you young cats got the internet......and it surrounds you and controls your life Kony 2012 style. Most of the stuff you praise him over is too me on some Kony 2012 shit. But the fact that he had an influence on an era of time.....I see that now. Not the greatness because of his beats...(not downgrading his beats) but JDilla's influence is why he is great.

    Sorry.....I wasn't feeling Slum Village. Not saying they were wack at all.....at the time they weren't a choice of music I would listen to. So I guess I ain't hip hop. {shrug}

    Damn that. Yall ain't hip hop because you don't know who this man is.

    There has never in the history of the streets been a song to blaze up the block like this song (except Mind Playing Tricks).

    Yall can't tell me nuffin. R.I.P Dilla. But DJ Magic Mike had an influence that a lot of young cats in the south don't even recognize. He also is one of the few (if not only) hip hop artist to go platinum off majority instrumental music.....(NO RADIO.....NO PROMO....JUST HAD THE STREETS EVERY ON LOCK)....certified platinum producer off beats. He changed the game forever. You will never be able to live without 808's. Your great great grand kids will never live without bass. No...I didn't read this a few years ago...I WAS THERE!!!!

    You didn't know that.....you ain't hip hop!!!!

    i was talking to brodel.
    but seriously, like I respect every GOOD music producer, even if its techno, which i hate. At the end of the day good music is good and everyone who got good ear can hear it. period

    This thread is just getting worse and worse. Dilla is from Detroit, and Dilla did more than just sample. Google the Roots and find out what real musicians like Quest luv or 88-keys thought bout Dilla. Did you say the south don't respect sample based producers?

    Ooops I guess Scarface ain't from the South, and he must not be a Southern Hip-hop legend. I'm not even gonna talk about DJ Screw. Class dismissed.
