Its all subjective.
In my opinion artists like Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are today's stars but are not either legendary or iconic. Is it possible they could become that? We will see. Jennifer Lopez (as a music performer) is an example of achieving widespread popularity and chart hit records but I wouldn't classify her in the star category.
Also some artists may be looked at as stars/icons/legends in one specific genre of music or sub-category and that's it while others are across the board.
Dennis Brown - Legend in reggae music
Bob Marley - Legend period
UGK - Iconic status in Southern Hip Hop
LL Cool J - Iconic status period
Do they have that cross-generational impact on the highest levels? Names like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and MJ come to mind.

Drake > Missy & Timbo combined. Old heads be hating hard.
Timbaland is a has-been. Missy is a has-been. The game don't care about them. It has changed too much for them to matter to anyone under 25 years old.
These young stars need to be more like Chief Keef and punk out these old heads. I'm riding with the youth on this one.
Yes plenty of old heads do be hating hard AND alot of young heads do not respect the path laid out for them by the previous generation. Hopefully both sides can get their act together and BRIDGE THE GAP
The Industry has changed, older artists need to just accept it, no matter how ****ed up it is. Younger artists also need to stop acting like they'll be 20 forever.
Old heads aren't in touch. They don't relate to the youth, so they automatically ride with what they know.
Same with the youth.
More like Chief Keef though?
We don't need more insecure, emotional-ass little niggas that wanna slap and shoot people because "nobody understands me!"
Teenage hormones...lol
ima get in this game and change it, i've seen enough now **** that shit
Everybody yelled surprise...I wasn't surprised...
I too disagree, every man and woman is a star![]()
Drake is better than these old artists to me. I don't want to hear a Missy album or a Timbaland beat. I don't want to hear a DMX album or a Dr. Dre beat. I don't want Drake to do an Aaliyah album.
I want Drake, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and other relevant artists to make great music today. Forget reaching back to the past. It is all about doing great things today.
I don't think any new artist should work with old heads. The old guys can give advice, but stay out the spotlight. Nobody cares about 40 year old men and women complaining about teenagers and 20 year old adults. Go play bingo or something.
