The term star is used too loosely today.
There are no stars in the since like how Michael Jackson was a star.
He became legendary after Thriller.

Prince was a star
he became legendary after Purple Rain.

Just because you are in the public eye... does not equate to being a star.

A star is considered a special person with a very unique talent.

Not just cause you are on TV.


Beyonce is a Star..On her way to becoming Legendary.

A person like Ciara is just known. Not a star.

In my opinion artists like Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are today's stars but are not either legendary or iconic. Is it possible they could become that? We will see. Jennifer Lopez (as a music performer) is an example of achieving widespread popularity and chart hit records but I wouldn't classify her in the star category.

Also some artists may be looked at as stars/icons/legends in one specific genre of music or sub-category and that's it while others are across the board.

Dennis Brown - Legend in reggae music
Bob Marley - Legend period

UGK - Iconic status in Southern Hip Hop
LL Cool J - Iconic status period

Do they have that cross-generational impact on the highest levels? Names like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and MJ come to mind.

Drake is better than these old artists to me. I don't want to hear a Missy album or a Timbaland beat. I don't want to hear a DMX album or a Dr. Dre beat. I don't want Drake to do an Aaliyah album.

I want Drake, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and other relevant artists to make great music today. Forget reaching back to the past. It is all about doing great things today.

I don't think any new artist should work with old heads. The old guys can give advice, but stay out the spotlight. Nobody cares about 40 year old men and women complaining about teenagers and 20 year old adults. Go play bingo or something.
