But then it feels awful afterwards when you realize your locked in a multi-year deal and the label has you shelved and they won't release you from your contract until your buzz dies off and the public forgets about you (the few that knew you existed to begin with). This wasn't too bad back in the days of 400-600k advances, at least you could walk away with some real bank. Nowadays for most rookies you're talking about 40-60k advance, ONE year income of the average working man in this country. And that's excluding your legal fees and finder fees...
100% A lot of people would rather say they inked a deal and lie about for how much just to say "I told you I would make it". That's why I had to leave a couple of people alone because that was and still is their whole conversation. And it's like being a dream killer telling them that #1 they are not ready for a deal anyway....#2 they need to research the many others on the label that was once in the lime light about the deal they have sign but 7-8 years later still no album, no features, and the shows are not even poppin anymore.
Nope........that deal is still way more important.....and I'm the hater in their rap song. lol! People still lie like they signed. I think it's a feeling of belonging somewhere in the music biz that makes them want that. They probably know the money is not like it used to be...."but shit man....somebody look at me over here...I've been doing it for so long and need to belong somewhere." It's a braggin rights thing. Being broke and signed is open for more lies....."I was fuucked in the deal"..........it's all premeditated with a lot of artist.
Team work is the best work. Time with a plan > Money now.
Yes and I run into this with people all the time, its called LIFE JUSTIFICATION. Everybody needs to have a talking point and even if it just meant meeting a rap artist that's good enough for most

Yes I agree
Gee, I bet these labels are slapping themselves trying to figure out how SouljaBoy blew up then with stock demo sounds off FL on Crank Dat.
