There are a number of rags to riches stories out there but this one is unique. I can really relate to it. People are more likely to loose there way in today's entertainment industry. 99.999% of people would take the first offer and not think twice about it until they were flat broke. The story is definitely not a life changer but it is an eye opener and added inspiration in very uninspiring times.
I express this to fellow producers almost daily but, I would like to see more teams emerge like the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and The Olympicks and a number of other duos and groups. If you have Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, Focus , Nottz and guys like that working on the same record what chance does an individual unknown producer have? Unless he or she is a multi-instrumentalist/ musical genius like Ryan Leslie. And how many Ryan Leslie type musicians are in hip hop. Wake up "Future Producers" cause no one can do this alone any more.
I just don't buy that. A music TEAM isn't necessary to be successful in music production. One person can do it all.
While it's true that there are people that specialize in certain aspects, and may be better than you at them, it's also true that someone is better than you AT THE THING YOU'RE BEST AT. So does that mean you should let someone else do what you do, and just go get a day job??
Especially in Hip Hop/Pop...with the crazy amount of tools we have at our disposal...a team isn't necessary. Yeah it's great, but not necessary.
I used to say that I needed a pianist. Then I got an app for that. I used to say I needed a guitarist. Then I got an app for that too. I used to say I needed a vocal arranger. Then I realized I could do it myself.
Now granted, when it comes to the business part of things, there are some jobs that are too time consuming to do yourself. I'm going to hire a web designer, and I'm going to outsource my video production.
But don't believe you need a team. Just because someone else has a team, doesn't mean you need one. It just depends on your skill set. If you aren't good at something, then BECOME GOOD AT IT. Then you won't need to pay someone else to do it.
Wake up "Future Producers" cause no one can do this alone any more.
[Scratches head]. I do not see how this is related to the ROCKY story or how you can link the Rocky story to Producers.
I mean, If a label, I dunno...wants my beat for a 100,000 and I say "No! Not unless I'm rapping over it!"
Is it hold out, until you are offered your worth?
What's the TEAM aspect about?
Can't do what alone?
Produce a record?
Make a beat?
Complete a track?
I love the group-outsource idea. I think it's awesome.
Musical collaborations are awesome.
Each person gotta decide what's right in regards to reaching their own goals.
I think the ultimate truth in this that sometimes, when someone else won't let you be a part of their club, you start your own.
Couldn't get in the movies? He made his own.
And so- can't sell any beats? Make your own records.
When they offer you a production deal (so to speak) you say "no" and offer a co-venture with your label.
I would settle for "less" in a heartbeat.
I am the type of guy that would rather have a dime today than a dollar tomorrow. There is no way on Earth I would starve or let my family starve to accomplish any dream. The reality of food, clothes, and shelter is too much for me to purposely go without. Sacrifice is for losers. I want great things, but good is good enough.
look at what he has now though..if hed settle to get these 300k for the screenplay he wouldn't be where he's at
its like dr dre's situation, he could put detox out next week, but if he worked on it 8 more months, that might make the difference between a classic and a dope record
Everybody yelled surprise...I wasn't surprised...
A friend of mine when I was younger had the basketball in his hand as we walked away from the court. We are far away from the court...far far away from the court. He bets me $100 dollars that he can make the shot from where we was at. I say O.K....(thinking it's all jokes) he threw the ball up in the air and nothing but net. And he wanted to act serious about the $100....like he knew he was going to hit. He got lucky..that's all.
So basically the video is saying sell your soul and everything for your dreams......can't see it. Video is more of an excuse for people to be motivated at getting lucky. It's like saying..I played the lottery 50,000 times in my life.....my kids and wife starved, we froze in the winter, we burned up in the summer....but I used a majority of my money to play lottery tickets for mega millions. My wife left me....took my kids...got married to a hard working fellow. I sold my dog just so I could get 2 double cheese burgers and some lottery tickets. 30 years it took me to hit the lottery.....it was worth the weight...so what that I had to hear my children cry they were hungry and cold..I wasn't about to work a job because I knew one day I was going to hit that damn lottery. AND I HIT IT..TAKE THAT WORLD!!!!
Being rich ain't that important. Always plan ahead. Make sure you are financially stable first when there are others that depend on you.

I appreciate your opinion. You obviously have the confidence, skills and energy to become a success in the industry. The situation I was focused on in particular was the producer that may need to become part of a team.
If someone is better than me at what I do best then I will get better in the long run. The competition inside wont harm us, it will only make us more focused. Even the most talented producer needs someone else eventually. An agent, engineers and other professionals.
So you may not need a team but I personally could benefit from being able to bounce ideas off the right people.
My college professor tells me that the video game industry is the complete opposite of the music scene. People jump at the chance to form alliances and take on large projects together. The reason I joined this site is so I could do these sort of things. I can do it all too, but what's the fun in that? The programs and equipment you use weren't developed, manufactured or shipped by one person.
