That's actually not uncommon for a wedding. A lot of people put it all on credit and ruin their credit that way. On a side note my wedding cost me about $600 and most of that was my wife's dress lol

Cutting a lot of corners. My wife's dress was $300 the pastor was the pastor of the church I used to go to and did it for free for us and let us use the church for free. My grandma covered the dinner afterward. I didn't do no crazy recession it was really more of us just kicking it for a few hours and we didn't really do a honey moon but instead her aunt got us a room at a really nice hotel/casino where we had a great time after. I got laid off from my job about 2 months prior and chose to not call it off and keep pushing so we had to make it work. I even canceled the dj and reception hall we were going to do because of it.

Nope, I got married at a court house on my wife's lunch...

... and we had to hurry up, lol. True story.

BUT! mine is a little different. I had military orders to leave the country and if we didn't get married super fast - she wouldn't have been able to come with me and I would've been gone for 2 1/2 years.

So we got married on her lunch, she took my car and went on base to get all of her passports and shots and she MADE IT just under the wire. She had one day to spare.

So the "honeymoon" was her living in Germany with me for 2 1/2 years.

I took her to -

Paris
Spain
Switzerland
Austria
Prague
Lichtenstein

and a slew of other places overseas. It was just us over there with no family... woo what a great time. Man did we kick it.

She showed up early, I was there for two months clubbing every night. I told her to not come until I had housing - they had me living in an attic in some apartment building. She came anyway, I got housing the next week and my car showed up the same week.

I wish I could go back.

My friend spent $10,000 of his own money on his wedding...

He got divorced after a few years and STILL had wedding bills. I saw him at his son's B day party and he said "Man, I'm still paying for that wedding... smh".

He wanted his wife back too but she wasn't having it, some other dude that spent money on her left and right had swooped in. She didn't really want that dude but she wasn't about to lose her meal ticket. She had $3,000 purses, $500 sandals and ish.... and she didn't spend any time with dude at all. He would be at the parties getting neglected just standing by himself, lol.
