Don't you HATE when your ideas hit the RADIO???

It's happened to me a few times...I use a certain idea/sound for a track, and a little while later, a major record comes out using the same idea. Then people hear the track I did and they think I'm biting, when my beat was made before that major record was released!

I was making a "club banger" back in like 2005, using a flute as the main instrument. We'd recorded the song and it was going on the album.

Then a few months later, 50 Cent drops Just A Lil Bit, with a flute as the main instrument.

Back in 2009, I did a few tracks where I ran the 808 sub bass through the Reason Scream, to distort the hell out of it. I thought it sounded pretty cool.

Then about a year later, I started hearing a few records come out using that same distorted 808 technique I was using.

(but that situation, I had personally handed a certain major producer a CD with about 10 of my tracks on it, about 3 of them using my distorted 808 technique...and at least 2 of the records that came out with a distorted 808 on them were produced by him)

And just now. I've been working on this track off and on for about a month (it's still only about 70% done), for an artist that I'm writing and producing for...

PMP Worldwide - The Best Opportunities for Producers and Songwriters

And then I hear this Nicki Minaj joint, using almost the same high pitched, ping pongy sound, front and center...

When it happens, I just smile, and take it as a sign that what I was doing was a good idea.

Has this ever happened to you??

i cried when i heard these on the radio, so mad, so furious. went through every session i had trying to connect the dots. It happens all the time. I just take it as flattery, i used to get upset, now i just try to switch it up. most of my ideas are built off older stuff anyway so its like creative karma lol

Yup...Cheers by Rihanna...back in 2009 I had started experimenting with live guitars and was sampling live riffs & chopping them on the mpc....I made a beat, decided to make it a rock/rap beat but I didn't think it sounded that well so I gave up on it....Around September 2010, went to the movies with my girl, during the trailer I heard Cheers...I kid u not. Almost same drum pattern, almost same melody...I was in shock!! F U Runners...LOL

All you can do is move on.The new wiz mixtape on track 2 has the exact same pad sound it was creepy, but its our fault for not pushing the idea.I am starting to get into the habit of just pushing songs out 24/7 instead of hiding them in the "vault".

I made Beez in the trap like 3 years ago messing with a free refill called mouth something. It was all beatbox sounds with delays on them and an 808 kick and snaps. I was just testing the refill....never saved it. True story.

I made this EXACT beat on a DR5 in 97'. True story. Not joking.

More true stories. We were having sample battles in the flip this section. Ever week the sample everyone was to sample seemed to be someone's exclusive release the following week. Dudes be on FP lurking.

    lol...I agree.

Coincidences like the Scott Storch and the Nicki thing don't bother me at all...I'm just like HA, I KNEW I HAD A GOOD IDEA! Someone else who was in a better position just happened to have the same idea.

You know what they say about great minds...

But when an idea is purposefully LIFTED? That irks me.

But I guess it's called "inspiration" right? Cuz I get inspired all the time.

Like that PMP track I posted was blatantly inspired by Rihanna's Cake. I heard that song and lost my mind, and I had to do something similar.

But when I get "inspired" by something someone else did, I try my best to take that idea, and make it into something almost COMPLETELY different.

Cuz honestly, I'm no good at biting...every time I try to BITE, it comes out horrible. But i try sometimes.... I be like "F' it, i'm jacking this shit!"

Well when you hand the person a CD containing tracks with your ideas, and then 6 months later hear those very same ideas included on a record they produced...

    The majors are LISTENING...
