Do young people really find rap music fun?

Does the music stimulate you? Is it fun?

I'm old and I downloaded some mixtapes to try to hear what type of beats people are making and the all of the songs sounded like one big continuous freestyle session. Lazy raps over beats that were all the same tempo.

I don't know many of the new rappers songs... I see their names but nothing makes me want to hear what they have to say because I can kind of guess what they're going to rap about. Sometimes I listen and I'm proven right. Money, car, drinks, women... repeat every other song. Oh and I'll do some nasty things to your woman is popular.

I want to still like the music, lol. It's hard to do.

How is it for young people? Am I hanging around to long and should go sit on the porch and cuss at cars?

Subscribing. That's the reason I made the June to July thread. I hate saying music is just iight. And it's not me saying the shit in comparison to mine at all. It's a listening pref for me.

I said before about Big K.R.I.T......I'm suppose to like dude...he makes music I normally like. But I just can't get into it.

I like Chief Keef only in support....reminds me of a young dude I would know or something who blew up.

I wasn't a fan of the MF Doom type sound even back in the days. The Bush Babies and stuff like that. I mean I liked it but wasn't into it like that.

Flying Lotus only fascinates my producer brain.....not really a fan of his...but I love his creativity.

Dubstep was just a short fascination I had with something new. Can't stand the shit now. I'm out of place..it's PG-13 shit. Say the word dubstep and here comes some kids screaming "IT'S MINE.....IT'S MINE...STAND BACK..YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT". Well damn.......is it that serious.......don't eat my face off bro. I better run......dubstep is worse than bathsalt. Fuuck it yall can have it then..shit.

HELL....I'm stuck listening to music from the past. Listen to Chris Brown album.....WTF?

I heard a RZA song two days ago.

    I can't get into it.

I'm so thankful for the G Funk Era.

Yall youngins couldn't possibly love your music of today like I still love this type of shit. It's impossible.

Every other conversation about hip-hop revolves around some similar sentiment of the OP. It seems screamingly obvious that hip-hop is starving for new content and isn't getting it. It seems like such a clear gaping hole in the market, why isn't it getting filled?

PS I know someone's going to answer with "because record labels don't like to take risks especially in the new climate". Whatever, they have to adapt or die. They can't just put out Jay-Z records until he's 65.

I think alot of the young guys are having fun with hip hop. So I enjoy hearing that fun energetic music. I ask my nephew alot what he's listening to. He put me on to some Drickey Graham (hate the name, Drake clone), some Wiz tracks, and some other stuff.

It's not in my rotation, but I like it.

And then when the kids come out with dance music. Stanky Leg was my cut. Then when the New Boyz was doing their thing.

So I like alot of it. As long as it's not OVERLY gangsta or trying to hard to be hard. Cuz lets face it, at 17, you ain't built like that, so I don't wanna hear you talking rapping it.

I think it will get better once people get used to the blogs and sites that announce real "HOT SHIT" instead of hype shit. Once we can put a gap in between the underground sounding like commercial and vice versa. When we put an end to the producer hype once and for all. Not dissing...but producers are half assin on shit just to be or stay relevant. And all the youth can do is be confused like "OH THIS IS HOT" and then later say "OH THAT SHIT WAS HOT WHEN IT CAME OUT" lol!. Hell...I never say that about the songs I liked....BECAUSE I STILL PLAY THEM TIL THIS DAY. I fiend to hear that shit because it is stuck in my head. So much got damn music that I can't even remeber the name or what song but that melody is stuck in my head. And When I find it.....it feels like Christmas. Dopamine.

    DOPE A MINE..

^^^^Their are a couple of sites. I forgot the names of them. They have charts and all of that. People get paid to listen. They get points or something that lead to money for feedback and listening. Rap artists on one of those sites suck......majority of fans were of dubstep and house and trance and shit. But it would be cool to have a site like that for hip hop and R&B. Facebook connected.
