Cash Money Records is under fire for shady business dealings. Again.

Cash Money records is, once again, under fire for not paying royalties.

According to Courthouse News Service via Soul Culture, music giant EMI is suing Cash Money because the label simply ceased quarterly royalty payments they had agreed to make as part of a 2009 settlement between the parties.

Cash Money allegedly owes $491,000 in royalties for samples from EMI's catalog. “Because Defendant has ignored numerous communications from EMI regarding Defendant’s contractual obligations, EMI once more is being forced to commence a lawsuit against Defendant to recover royalty payments,” the complaint states. “The sales of Defendant’s products have far exceeded the payments that EMI has received.” “It is clear from Defendant’s conduct that it has no intention of honoring the Agreement,” the complaint continues “Because Defendant has ignored numerous communications from EMI regarding Defendant’s contractual obligations, EMI once more is being forced to commence a lawsuit against Defendant to recover royalty payments,” states the complaint. “The sales of Defendant’s products have far exceeded the payments that EMI has received.” “It is clear from Defendant’s conduct that it has no intention of honoring the Agreement.”

The turn of events is somewhat less than shocking, as the house that Slim and Birdman built has been a near-constant target for lawsuits over the past several years. Plaintiffs in previous cases have included Bangladesh, producer T-Mix, Done Deal Enterprises, producer David Kirkwood, Bridgeport Music, "Lollipop" producer Deezle, and many, many more. Also of note are high-profile controversies with Mannie Fresh and Wendy Day over money.

LMAO, To submit material to them is to make a marketing investment, chop it up, accept the exposure and move on.

This wont stop the hordes of artists/producers looking for 'their big break' from sending music to them

99.9999999% of them will sign away the advance bread and just settle for back album credit so they can have some bragging rights on Twitter. Props is the new monetary currency in today's music scene

This is not another producer though, this is EMI; a music giant.

They'll put a stop to his ass if they wanted to.

But is it really a bad way to go? Sacrifice just one more beat so that you can get some exposure and start doing REAL deals after people actually know who you are.

Wasn't making a judgement just an observation. If the producer is good with signing away all their monetary rights while the artist/label make potentially 6-7 figures off your work then more power to them.

There's a thin line between paying your dues and getting got...in this business in the words of Rakim make sure you 'know the ledge'...

Correct, but considering the overall situation with EMI in the last few years leading up to their recent sell off to Universal (records) and Sony (publishing) I can totally see why Cash Money decided to stop paying them

Well first thing i dont get is this over 500k? They mad a t that? Baby spend that yearly in strip clubs thats light work second thing is the deezle producing thing lollipop at the bottom.. He aint produce that shit jim jonsin did.. So his claims are false

It's probably cheaper for Cash Money Records to just settle out of court with you IF you win than to pay you what you're owed, lol.

Producer - "I'm suing CMR for $500,000!!!"

Baby - "Gimme my wallet... here ya go playa..... lolololol... we'll buy whips with the other 2 mill we'll make off of the song."

I hope they get sued. It's ****ed that they're rich and still can't pay the people who helped get them there. Why would you want to support that? Or why would you want to be a part of it? You'll get ripped off, too. Be proud of your music and don't sell yourself short.
