Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll probably go down the store this afternoon.
I guess the smartest move would be to invest in a decent drum kit library. with multi-sampled, multi-layered kits recorded in a nice room with nice gear.
and I know what you're talking about regarding the static, lifeless hhs that are programmed with a single shot sample.
