7 Insane Ways Music Affects The Body (According To Science).

Kind of interesting. Not much solid research yet on a lot of this stuff, but they're on to some cool ideas...

Suddenly, patients with bradykinesia--an inability to initiate movement--can move instantly as their brain interprets the music and sends movement signals to their legs, essentially tricking their bodies into moving. We'll say that again for you: Music can trick your broken, unresponsive body into obedience. Think about it: How many times have you thrown your hands in the air? When that happened, did you just not care? Science says that's because you had no control.

The first one doesn't really surprise me. I used to work with this guy that raps, he stutters really bad when he talks, but he can flow pretty well. Basshunter has tourette's syndrome. I've heard of other artists often being mentally challenged from way degree to another and often find it hard to express themselves verbally but can sing beautifully.

I'm not so sure about kicking an addiction, a lot of people like to listen to certain types of music WITH their drug of choice. Ecstasy or speed goes with techno, something like pink floyd goes nice with opiates and anything is better with weed, or so I've heard . And you might be listening to one of your favorite songs and think "Man I wish I was on ____ right now."

The theory that classical music increases IQ has been around forever. Play it for your baby and he/she will grow up to be a genius! I dunno about all that, but I've heard of studies done on rats where they ran them through a maze over and over, they played classical music and they found the cheese faster, when they played heavy metal they ate each other...I've never actually seen the study though.

There is this one type of music, don't know what it is called, but it HAS been proven to increase mental functioning and get higher IQ results. If you've ever seen American Beauty, you've heard it.

I took a classical music course in college before I dropped out, and the teacher had heard the "higher IQ" theory. He explained that the reasoning behind the theory is that the constant rhythm and meter was the part that actually increased the IQ. He and I spoke for about 10 minutes and he decided that if that was the true case, hip-hop would probably be the best music to play for your babies, since its mostly all 4/4 time signatures that stay constant through most of the song, if not the entire album.

LOL, or you can stimulate the Lazarus nerve and make a brain-dead patient cross their arms over their chest like a rapper from the 80s (....and no, I am not kidding). LMAO

Classical music stimulates the brain, because most of the instruments are transient-rich and because many instruments blend over into/out of the frequency range of the human voice (especially FEMALE voices). It's like listening to someone sing a song in a language you don't know.............but understand subconsciously.

Many people with defective hearing have problems with understanding language/picking voices out of a crowd, because it is highly dependent on the ear/brain being able to perceive transients in a signal. (It's a very interesting topic; once you understand how your ear/brain works "on music" and the role of the Corpus callosum, your understanding of the "rules" in mixing/production will be much deeper).

What's interesting about this? MP3s have a limited, unnatural frequency range AND most of the transients get lost in the process, or in short: yes, listening to MP3s makes you DUMB.

Hmmm, what else can I bore you with? Babies react to music "in utero", you all know this. Did you know that babies pick up the ACCENT and LANGUAGE of the people talking to them before they are born? Japanese babies end up crying in Japanese, American in English and French..........you guessed it. Babies basically learn "playing" their "native instrument" before they are born and therefore before they start to speak.

And something completely unrelated to end this post: tomato juice tastes much better on a plane than on the ground. Try it out just in case you don't like tomato juice, but never drank it on a plane. Just saying. LMAO
