OK, dude, this is interesting... what about the 10 most essential ones ?!
Guide me in the right direction !

jeez, to me they're all essential...

of the rock bunch, if you can only buy 10, get:
Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run
Fugazi - Repeater
Television - Marquee Moon
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
The Clash - London Calling
The Ramones - Rocket To Russia
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
The Stooges - Raw Power
Velvet Underground - The VU with Nico

I'd advice anyone to get all 25, but these 10 would give you the broadest spectrum of music.

of the soul/disco bunch... hmmmm....

your record collection would look silly without at least these:
Aretha Franklin- Lady Soul
Blaze - 25 Years Later
Chic - Risque
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?
Prince – Sign O’ The Times
Sly & The Family Stone - Stand!
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Ten City – Foundation

5 best ALBUMS

These albums made me get excited about music when I heard them!

White Zombie-La sex.....
Pantera-vulgar display
Black Sabbath-all
Metallica-Pre black album
Ministry-P69

I understand these bands are well known, and I am not trying to impress by naming obscure bands. With out these albums I feel Metal would be less than what it is.

Right, just get this out of my system:

<Radiohead - The Bends>
<Radiohead - OK Computer>
<Radiohead - Kid A>
<Radiohead - Amnesiac>

Top 5 without radiohead:

>Muse - Origin of Symmetry
>Muse - Showbiz
>Boards of Canada - Music has the right to children
>Nirvana - Nevermind
>Orbital - Snivilisation

changing approximately every 36 seconds.
:D

PEACE

Vertical Horizon (because they're my #1 fav band):

Everything You Want
Running On Ice
There And Back Again
Live Stages
Go (well when it comes out)
"VERTICAL HORIZON" - Vertical Horizon (its a double disc package of rare, live, unreleased, and cover songs by VH that i burned)

non VH albums:

The Best of 1980-1990 - U2
Gravity - Our Lady Peace
Morning View - incubus
"NIRVANA" - Nirvana
A Rush of Blood To The Head - Coldplay

damn, vertical horizon isn't THAT good. but their last album was pretty cool. i gotta agree with the coldplay album though, it's really understated, which is rare these days.

but nothing can compare to weezer's blue album, radiohead's ok computer, or third eye blind's debut. i know i'll get a lot of **** about the third eye blind album, but i love it.

Five's not enough. 25's probably not enough.

But totally off the top of my head...

Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Portishead - Dummy
Magazine - Real Life
Getz/Gilberto (Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jobim)
Coltrane - Olé

honorable mention: The Fur Ones - Odd Numbers

Third Eye Blind's debut wasn't too bad. They and Matchbox 20 really revived a dying modern/post-alt rock scene.

in no particular order

Portishead - Dummy
The Cure - Disintegration
Mad Season - Above
NIN - Downward Spiral
ORB - The orb's adventures beyond the ultra world

ohhh yes they are, VH is one of the best most creative ****ing bands out there.

OK, when a certain bands songs are interchangeable with everyother band in that genre like 3 Doors Down, Matchbox 20, Our Lady Peace, Counting Crows, Live, etc. said band is NOT innovative or creative. They are simply yet another choice in an oversaturated top 40 market.
