Sorry guys this will be a double post. It is just because I need advice fast...

Whatsup all. I am getting overwhelmed trying to learn these softwares in order to make music. I do not even know how to play a keyboard. I am really getting discouraged and starting to lose interest. Anyone have advice?
I keep thinking ahead like... ok after I learn these softwares... it is not like I am going to be popular... and although it is a passion of mine... if I am not going to get anywhere with it.. then what is the point... you guys get what I am saying?
I mean it is not like we are going to be 50 years old and still making electronic music... is this a phase? I dont know... some kind advice would be appreciated. Better of just saving any further expenditure, and resist the temptation.

What you should do is find a mentor, someone who already been in the game for a minute and learn from them. That what I did, hanging around cats doing music, moved up to selling CDs, and now I am starting a record label, managing hip hop artists and somewhat producing. So you have to self motivate yourself and just want it.

Do a music production course or hang about with producers, at least that way you will gain the skills needed and from there you can decide whether you just want to produce for other people and sell your beats or for yourself and start a record label.

I had the exact same problem, although it wasn't that I didn't know how to use my equipment, it was like I was making it alone. Nobody to bounce ideas off of, no feedback.

That's one reason I'm organizing a "support group" type thing for producers in my area (I posted about it in the Collaborating forum). Maybe it'd be a smart thing for you to do the same. Post up flyers around town. Post on appropriate message boards. Find some people who would be willing to meet up and discuss the craft. Maybe they can give you some pointers, AND that motivation you need.

I know from experience that EVERYTHING, no matter how much you love it, becomes monotonous if you're doing it all alone.

i could kick you in the balls, and tell you that the first year sucks for most people, but that wouldn't help... kidding, kind of. the first year is the hardest because it takes time to get your mind to express itself into the physical world and outside of your brain, a very frustrating thing indeed. but with time you will learn how to quicken the process and do it with better results.

also i think that you may be trying to do too much too fast. try doing one synth custom preset, drum kit, pad, sample correction etc. every day.

here is a quote for you, and big ups to anyone who can tell me what movie/ book it is from-

"matters of great concern should be treated lightly...matters of little concern should be treated seriously."

so stop wankin in front of your monitor and get to makin small ideas, because you will be glad you did in the future when you can start to sequence songs well.

Well my 1st year of producing has been good! Ive sold six beats, got some royalty rights and Im running a label...

It all depends on what motivates you..
$$$ motivates me and competition. Not compettition as in the beat battle forums; but I try to make beats that can compete with the top producers...

Ive sent alot of beats to the delete can. Sometimes when I make a Tight, hot azz beat, it takes me a while (like a week or two) to follow it up because I tend to be overwelmed by what Ive done.

why are you doing it then?

this is a 'passion', yet you already know you wont be doing it when youre 50....? your passion runs shallow....

why are you doing it? whats your goal?

    peace.

I do not mean any disrespect dude... but I have yet seen someone making beats when he is 50+ years old... or electronic music or whatever. I think as you get older you start listening to more soulful music and easy listening things.
