Every producer worth his or her salt comes up with ways of breaking long-standing recording habits to come up with something fresh. What do you do?
remix other artists or even well known tunes just for my own pleasure. also i like to somthimes limit myself to a certain number of tracks.. like many of my tunes in acid use 30-40 tracks, it's a nice challenge sometime s to force myself to only use say 16 or so... etc
i also like to include & work with real world instruments especially real drums & guitars to add a different edge. Also, i spend a lot of time scouting for new freeware VSTi etc just to have new sounds to mangle.
the best way i know to stay fresh though is to get a life outside of audio (i know going outside can be a scary concept) but sometimes a night away from making music can be fun.
