no dubstep and its sounds have been made in london for many years - the growl was invented in a council house in hackney
I hate it when people hate on skrillex just because he's mainstream. His sounds are influenced by dubstep and many other genres, he doesn't fit into any specific genre. If you were to tell me 2 years ago that sonny moore would be hated on for being a mainstream edm producer I wouldn't have believed you. Regardless of what people think he really perfected the growl. It sounds so clean and the sound design is nearly flawless. I personally think his best implementation of the 'monster synth' growl is in his unreleased track "nothing yet". He really paved the way for a new generation of electronic music and used influences from all over, including adapting the growl and wobbly basslines that cause people to want to confine him within one genre.
Much genre discussions are so silly anyway. People are always talking about what's "real music" and what genre something is. It's music. You either like the sound or you don't... and that's a preference. Everything is preference. I happen to like Skrillex. But if we're going to go with pigeonholing into genres, I'd say he's postdubstep/complextro over dubstep.
I love feedback from producers. Give it a listen if you have a second.

Dubstep...? What has happened..... Skrillex is electro house/complextro.... Dubstep is 2step or garage remixes of Jamaican dub....
I +1 you on that.
He's the first "Growl" I ever heard.
