Sheck Wes just recently got sign to Travis Scott's Cactus Jack records, and has shown a knack for catchy melodies and against aggressive production that has a really infectious energy. His most recent song Mo Bamba is quickly blowing up. Is he the sound New York has needed to take over the rap scene?

New York needs its old guard to refuse to cater to the youth in order to remain relevant e.g. Funk Flex is a good example of this and new artists need to focus on non disposable music for their own careers instead of signing artists and having labels. Though Hip Hop is far removed culturally from NYC, NYC needs to re-embrace regionalism as far as contemporary NYC is concerned.

Regionalism is somewhat dead to the youth of hip-hop. The dominant sound has been the south for years now. These kids came up hearing southern records. The classic new York sound still exists but nobody there to carry that torch. Gotta let nostalgia go.
