Its a basic skill that you can teach yourself. just play with records, listen to the bass, listen to the tones in chords, hum them and then find them. its not hard but may be slow at first. after a bit of practice, you will at least know what type of chords/progression are playing without even having an instrument by you. start with easy songs not giant steps or something lie that, obviously... also Nat was a total badass piano player.
