DR. DRE "COMPTON" - Official Thread

Just had another listen with my HDR 170's it reminded of playing the first missions of GTA V, tremendous experience.

I mean....the dude ain't in his 20s.........30s......40s..........damn Dre like 60 going on 70 right? I mean........2001 he said I been in the game for 30 years making rap tunes. Sooooo what did yall want to hear.......him talking about viagra in an orgy.........doing a drive on a prive jet......? Hell....it's the same fed up Dre on 2001.....same argument.....cry me a river Dre. The same "this the mfing thanls I get......ungrateful mfers" shit on 2001. I'm happy the man still alive......he took some extasy when he was 44 years old....what you want him to rap about....taking meth?

On the real.........you have to do like I did and what Dre wanted you to do........and not compare it to other Dre albums. Same with Jay Z.......this was there way of giving you something without you going "well.......track 2 didn't come on quit as good as it did on Blue Print.......so it is kind of wack......

Funny thing about "Dre albums" is that he only has 3......you would think he has a large collection of albums.

I would love for Dr.Dre to release all of the leaked shit on an album, mix and tweak...and release it out of nowhere......soon.....not in 17 years....

Dr.Dre old as shit....

Okay, I think I can add my thoughts on the album now after a few days listening.

1) This is a good azz album. I can't say if its better or equal to 2001 , but its a up there and, at the minimum, a solid "3rd" album for a cat who a lot of people consider to be the best hip-hop producer ever.

2) I think Dre is on his Q shit in terms of where he's at musically. He's still bringing the best cats out there and some new cats to collab on his projects( this cat got potential https://youtu.be/k91GXps9MVI), and it seems from an engineering perspective he's pushing the bar. One cat mentioned the mix was bad, but I think it was a mastering issue with how to approach loudness when putting such a diverse range sound sources in a single track. It was kinda like a movie where the dialog is real low compared to the music and sound affects noticeable at a higher level. Its cool if you're just listening to this album as one, but if switch to another piece of music there is a dramatic difference in loudness. I'm not an engineer, so I'm not sure of why it was done like that.

Eh..this sh*t was okay....sonically..it was Dre..I mean we didn't expect it to sound like anything other than it did. Kdot was all over Drake on here and I'm glad to see the homie Conner gettin some love. Been following him since his Kayslay days. They should've put "Syllables" on here, as it was better than all of the features on this product. I think my high expectations is what makes this album not so good. Chino's RICANstruction is way better than this and it was 3 years ago.

Dre just knows how to make good music

Hell yea.

Its the type of music made by someone from the era when making hit music still made you millions of dollars.

That sensibility of investing in quality and trying to deliver a legit inspiring and uniquely creative experience.

As opposed to music of today that is less explorative. Its intent being just to be good enough to play on tour and for the anemic tastes of the internet generation.

While in the glory days of music, people tried to truly hit that abstract sweet spot and create incredible music and art.

You can feel his sensibilities here. The confidence.

I honestly did not expect this. He could have failed in so many ways considering the state of music today, but somehow he pulled a Kanye or Em and strong armed his way into relevance despite all odds just through sheer undeniable quality and attention to detail.

I think Dre might drop Detox eventually, he's just putting this out to take the pressure off. He will drop Detox out of nowhere with at least 3 records on the level of Still D.R.E on it.

Not sure if srs.

Upon releasing this album, Dre made a well publicized statement that he scrapped Detox because it was garbage and not up to his standards.

Music was in a very weird place after the lil wayne/gucci mane era.

Look at the cheesy dated songs like I need a Doctor from 2011. Thats what it would have been like.

This release on the other hand is more timeless somehow.

I don't know, he's worked on Detox for so many years, and it's now 2015. Album will probably sound old by now, content might be good though.

I do like the album, not what I was expecting though, oh and Dre doesnt really sound like dre much IDK I want to like it more than i do. I want to like it, would love a little more old school G Funk .............

Think of the leaked tracks, the names who have been working on it, Storch, Kalil etc. the rappers who said it's almost done, the fact that he has so much dope material for it by the world best producers. He even had sessions where he flew in 5-6 of the best producers in the game to cook up beats. None of those names have been on this album.
I see Dre releasing another album. Dre has just entered the prime of his life.

Agree with you on Dre not sounding like Dre. Confused me at the beginning. But now I got used to it.

Seems like dre chose dynamics over volume, and as usual the fella's instrumentation is very clean. Not a pure hip hop fan by any means [how many times do I mention being a drake fanboy?] this is above average traditional hiphop standards when it comes to structure, mixing and style in my opinion.

There's a good bit to be learned from that fella's history. Like he's some sort of mountain sage who sits on top of a peak for decades.

I hope, i thought about this too

You drop an album outta nowhere, with like what? 1 week notice...

The shit was done to alleviate that Detox pressure and it worked... he can safely drop it now and people would be cool with it.

Dropping Detox now would be like an added bonus.
